95 D16Z6 turbo: manifold recommendations
hey everyone. not sure if this should be in the forced induction section but here goes... so i bought this 95 civic d16z6 turbo bout 2 months ago off of a good friend of mine. i cant get the manifold to stop leaking where it connects to the downpipe. instead of wasting time and money getting new gaskets made or whatever wat is a GOOD turbo manifold for these d series motors without spending $500. i'm on unemployment right now and i have a small budget and this is my daily driver. heres the setup i currently have. any suggestions are appreciated. thanks!

if your replace the manifold, you will likely need to replace the downpipe as well because the turbo's location will change.
those manifolds are known for cracking

Re: 95 D16Z6 turbo: manifold recommendations
the manifold and downpipe are not directly connected to each other
the manifold connects to the turbo> turbo connects to downpipe
manifold connects to wastegate> wastegate to downpipe if you have it set up that way
if your sure its a gasket leak and not a cracked weld, its cheaper to source out a gasket and replace only that,
if its a cracked weld on the manifold it'll be cheaper to take it to a shop to get rewelded
like wmac said, if you buy another manifold, you'll have to buy another downpipe for correct fitment. and if its a stainless steel manifold + downpipe, ebay is NOT the way to go

excuse me...thats wat i meant...where the manifold connects to the turbo. my bad i havent had a car with an aftermarket turbo in abour 6 years. i'll jus get new gaskets made when i get the $$$. theres no cracks in the manifold so thats a good sign.

yea the manifold is done. its cracked in 3 different spots on this one weld. i went to my local muffler shop they said its not worth fixing.

you have to consider what they'd charge you to reweld it VS buying a quality manifold of that same design
i'm not sure if they could simply weld over the existing welds or will have to grind the old weld back off.

Re: 95 D16Z6 turbo: manifold recommendations
they were going to charge me $100 to reweld it....the same price they charged me when it cracked before and the flange for the wastegate came off. i'm going back there tomorrow. i have a spare cast manifold and i have 2 other downpipes so im going to see if they can just make the cast manifold work and if they need one of the other downpipes i have them. i'm worried though because the wastegate will be mounted on the top instead of the side. i already have a dent in my hood from that manifold/wastegate combo from the previous owner lol

Those manifolds are serviceable if you reweld and reinforce the manifolds correctly. However yes, they are still junk. They are made from inferior materials, with small and weak welds. Also, to weld the stainless piping you should use stainless wire, which I somewhat doubt a muffler shop would have done.

Re: 95 D16Z6 turbo: manifold recommendations
well i had them fix the manifold before...and the part they fixed is absolutely fine. im taking it there tomorrow to see. i have an extra cast manifold and 2 extra downpipes so ill see what my best option is. i need new gaskets and i need my exhaust rehung on one spot its been rattling like crazy. also because of the cracked manifold its been backfiring alot. ive been trying not to drive it too much for now. thats how i knew it was cracked when it started backfiring because thats what it did last time. and as soon as i got the manifold fixed it stopped. i forgot how much of a pain in the *** a turbo car can be haha
