95 Civic LX with D16z6 Swap
Hey Everyone,
I need a bit of help. I recently purchased a 1995 Civic LX, which i can tell has had a full D16z6 SOCH VTEC swap put in, including the p28 ECU. I can tell the car was once an auto since it still has the stock gauges from an auto. From what i can see the previous owner did a decent job with the swap. TIL IT CAME TO THE WIRING!!! My speedometer and odometer dont work, all other gauges do. How is this possible? Also clearly the VTEC was not wired in properly (one connector to the solenoid is completely cut off, the other is there with just a single wire in the connector) wires are running from the ECU to directly to the engine bay. To fix this i have ordered a complete and UNCUT engine harness from a 92-95 EX civic, but from what i understand the the under the dash harness that connects to the engine harness is a two piece harness in the EG. Sayin the the previous owner kept the LX dash harness, will it connect to my new EX engine harness?? HELP PLEASE ASAP!! thank you.

You'll just need to wire VTEC from the shock tower to the ECU
For the speedometer/odometer check the VSS on the transmission to see if its plugged in

Thanks for the quick reponse. From those pics, it looks as tho this will be just a plug and play swap of the harnesses? Is this correct or will i have to re-pin any connectors??
The car was swap to a 5spd manual, should the trans still have the VSS connector on it? Would i just be better off buyin the gauge cluster from a M/T EG?

It'll plug and play but you'll have to add a couple of wires for VTEC on the cabin part of the harness to the ECU for VTEC. One end will be a male connector the other end an ECU pin. As for the VSS it's all one unit so it could just not be there but take a look. The only difference in MT and AT clusters is the MT doesn't have PRND on it.

I was hopin to avoid doin any re-wiring but my cousin has wired up VTEC for other ppl thousands of times, ill just see if he can do it. but ill deffinately have to take a look for the VSS tomorrow. Ive noticed that colum for the PRND on the gauges, it kinda annoys me since they are now useless. Any idea where i can find a MT gauge cluster on-line??

No real rewiring as those pin locations should be empty. You'll just need to plug it in once you make it, or you could stop by a junk yard and get a wire from another OBD1 Honda shock tower to ECU harness. Just make sure you get one with a large ECU pin (VTEC solenoid) and one with a small ECU pin (VTEC pressure switch). I got my cluster from ebay used. The odometer/speedo are swappable so you can retain your mileage.
