95 Civic dx H22 swap Type-S or no ?
I am getting a 95 civic dx coupe in about a week and i just bought a h22a4 from a police auction for $100. The engine was prolly stolen out of a running prelude so i'm assuming it works just fine and it has everything on it. I was just wondering how much it would cost me to make it a Type-S and if it's worth it. Also what exactly is different on it to make it Type-S cams, vavles, pistons etc. I want to put a turbo on it also i was wondering what would be a good turbo for my h22 and what kind of results should i expect to get from it.

Yeah $100 not too bad eh ? i ran across it the day after i found out i was getting a civic . I want to put it in but i want to rebuild it first and i figured i would make it a Type-S get a few more horses out of it . I just need to know how to go about doing it and about how much it will cost i was looking at engines and it was about 2300 more for the Type-S so should i plan on spending that much or more/less ? any help would be greatly appreciated.

there is no difference between the engine in the type s and the regular prelude with the current body style. The type s designates if the car has the funky transmission thing (Active Torque Transfer System(ATTS)) where your outer wheels speed up to make it feel more like a rwd car. you can probably ask the guys over in the prelude forum the true difference.

You are confused my friend, the Type-S is the JDM Prelude model with 220 HP I believe, You are thinking of the Type-SH with ATTS.

to me it is kinda a waste, you go ahead and build it with some nice stuff, prep it for boost or all motor or whatever you want to do.

Wow, 100 bucks. That price alone makes the h22 swap better than any other. Remember that you will aalso need some other stuff, like mounts axles shifter box, etc.
What I would say is this, if the motor is newer, and it runs do not rebuild it. If you want to be like the jdm model, just get the type s cams from http://www.inlinefour.com and get the red valve cover as well. The only thing you would be missing is the slightly raised compression and the LSD tranny. As for the compression, keep it the same throw a little shot of nitrous for the track, maybe a mild costom turbo application?
MY thoughts are not to rebild the motor, THAT is a waste.

Why would you not need the pistons if you were to go turbo ? I planned on going turbo and i figured it would be better to have the type-s since it has an extra 30 horses and could handle the extra boost better. Ive been looking around at other cars and i still dont know exactly what i want to do. I think i might just buy a car with a blown engine like an accord or something to put it in. I heard i will lose alot of handling if i put it in a smaller car like a civic since it weighs so much. What kind of car would be a good all around car for the swap im not really partial to any of the hondas they all look pretty nice.

Type SH has ATTS, and there is a difference. Type S is JDM only, has more aggressive cams and high compression pistons producing 220 HP at the flywheel, and has a red valve cover.
where as USDM Type SH has 195. Type S doesn't have ATTS, it has an OEM LSD that is excellent, and is better than ATTS.
and where the hell did you get "outer wheels speeding up making it feel like rwd??

Re: 95 Civic dx H22 swap Type-S or no ? (Plan B)
Ok so if i wanted to go all motor type-s would be the way to go but if i want to run a turbo i should keep the stock pistons. Why would cams be bad for boost since they arent changing the compression ? or do they ? What would be a good turbo i see alot of different turbos all different psi. I'm guessing psi would be the amount of boost the turbo provides. How much should i run ? How much can i run ? How much is too much ? How big of a difference is there between all the different turbos ?
