Default 95 Civic cluster swap out help

My 95 VX hatch had the instrument cluster stolen and in the process they smashed the black plastic moulding around it which contains the blower covers, etc. I went to the junkyard and the guy has an old Civic but it's looking like the whole dash has to be removed to get the cover/cluster out. Is this right?

I poked around the remains of the old moulding, it looks like maybe you just have to pry up the clips on the underside, take out the upper screws and pull real hard on the left air vent which is sort of stuck in there. But there are some mounting brackets with the screws missing and it's not clear that any of them can be hooked up with the cluster/cover in place, so maybe the dash does have to come out?

Can someone advise me and if the dash has to come out what is involved? I found a bolt on the left side of it under a cover panel but that's as far as I went.

thx,
Duncan

i switched out my cluster 3 days ago... the black piece around the cluster is held on by 3 screws. 2 of them are right infront of the cluster and the last one is behind the hazard button. Then you just pop it out with your hands. It only took me about 20 minutes.

there is a screw behind the switch for the hazard lights, and 2 screws above the cluster, then it should pull right out... i did this in low light and didnt see the hazard switch screw and cracked my **** then i went for a drive later in the night with the plastic still removed(it was sitting on my garage floor) when i pulled back in the garage i ran it over

ive been roling with an exposed cluster, hazard switch and clock, the switch and clock bounce around everywhere, its hilarious. plus whenever i get pulled over the cop thinks i am driving a stolen car... ghetto
