Default 95' civic AC problem..

my ac in my car seems to "turn on and off" continuiously.. why i say that is the compressor will work, then seem like its turned off, then work and so fourth.. i can feel the power surges when it does that also... what could be the problem??

Low pressure switch or low on freon.

My guess.

any other thoughts? i was hoping it was something small.. actually the compressor is something small, i just dont feel like replacin it had to do my wifes last summer..

btw thanks for the input so far.. give me some other possibilities before i start searching!

could using one of those do it yourself freon cause something to go wrong? ive only had the car for 2 months, filled freon a week after i had it..

OK, so you already filled it once?? It wasn't doing this b4 was it??

When an a/c setup gets too low on freon, or the low pressure switch goes bad, the a/c compressor will engage and disengage the way you have described.

Start with those, as they are the most likely, and cheapest repair.

well thats the thing.. i turned the ac on for a good 5 mins.. no probs.. its after it warms up and you actually drive for about 5 mins it starts doing it.. where the heck is the low pressure switch at?

and yes i have filled it once..

btw, this is my first car with ac all my other ones, my turbo did not allow it

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but what I read seemed to be describing how the compressor is supposed to run. Any car I've had...specifically in a 4 cylinder where you can feel the power changes....the A/C kicks on to cool some air then will kick off...the A/C continues to blow...then depending on how hot it is it may kick back on in a minute or two or a few minutes like 5. Still have ice cold A/C on my civic and it runs like that.

Probably a leak somewhere. Same thing happen to my wife 95 civic lx. Turn out there was a leak on the ac evaporator. Replace it and problem was solve. Ice cold AC for the summer.
