It goes:
92-95
96-98
99-00

Anything 1.6 vtec single cam before 96 was a z6.
Anything 1.6 vtec single cam 96 on was a y8.

Im not sure if it changed in 99. I dont know much
about the sixth gens, so correct me if im wrong.

You have a d16y8.

I don't think there would be a difference in the dipsticks.

For all who dont know the 92-95 were y7 and the 96-00 are y8's , the 99 just has like one more intake sensor other than that they are the same as 96-98.

Wrong.

The 92-95 VTEC motors are d16z6.

96-98 NON-VTEC motors are d16y7. 96-98 VTEC motors are d16y8.

No Honda, del sol or not, had a d16y8 before the year 1998...unless it was swapped. Just look at the code on the block and make sure you get the correct dipstick.

edit: before the year 1996 not 1998.

First I'm lost at a 96 Civic Si, I mean wtf, can someone explain to me that this is actually a car? I thought civic si's went from 92-95 hatchbacks then came back in 99-00 as coupes. Second... lets see you said 96-96 non-vtec motors are d16y7 and 96-98 vtec motors are d16y8 thats correct also but the d16y8 goes from 96-00 in the ex. Only difference between 98-99 is that 96-98 have obd1a and 99-00 have obd2b. Also your stated that "No Honda, del sol or not, had a d16y8 before the year 1998" your saying two different things first you said d16y8 96-98 but then none before 98? Also the dipstick is the same 96-00 for soch motors, whether it being a d16y7, d16y8, and last but not least the d16y5.

USDM
92-95 EX/Si sohc vtec- d16z6
96-00 EX sohc vtec- d16y8
96-00 sohc non-vtec- d16y7

C(Canada)DM

92-95 Si- d16z6
96-00 Si- d16y8
96-00 SiR- b16a2

In Canada the Si is our EX and the SiR is our Si.

92-95 civic si's and ex and delsol si's had the d16z6 with the dip stick inbetween the header
96-97 delsol si's and 96-00 civic ex's had the d16y8 with the dpstick next to the timing belt cover

Yeah...In my last statement replace the 1998 with 1996, and all your confusion will go away.

well we shouldn't even be talking about 1998, the d16y8 goes from 1996-2000, I don't understand why you mentioned 1998 then stated at the bottom that no civic had a d16y8 before 1998, which is false. All ex's 96-00 has d16y8. Whats this that you should you have to replace the 98 with the 96 to make it right. Last thing though the guy should've mentioned that this is a candian car to start with, he has a d16y8 so go find a y5,y7, or a y8 dipstick, they are all the same.

Yeah...your right man...

I don't know where I got 98...maybe just word association.

Anyway, what I meant was no civic before 96 has a y8 whether its a del sol or not doesn't matter.
