Hey all...I am at my wits end. My car suddenly stopped one day last week. It started back up after a couple tries. Then yesterday, I went to start it up and it wouldn't fire. I took off the dizzy cap and the set screw that holds the rotor had fallen out and tore some stuff up. I got a new cap, new rotor, new wires, new spark plugs. I took the old plugs out and my plugs were in a puddle of oil. Found out it was bad tube seals so I replaced all the gaskets as well. I checked the fuel pump and I'm getting fuel. I checked the plugs and I am getting sparks. I checked the timing and the rotor is at #1 spot when the #1 is at TDC. I checked the sensors in the dizzy and they all check out fine. The only thing I found wrong is the primary connections for the ignition coil were running at 1.3 ohms.

Would you suggest getting a new ignition coil or could it be something else? I have ran out of ideas.

Sounds like a bad coil. What color is spark?

It's blue.

Spark should be bright white. Replace the coil.

The guy I get parts from is a mechanic here in town and he seems to think the ignition coil isn't the problem because I wouldn't get any spark if it was. Could the high resistivity of the coil cause the car not to start or could it just be I'm not getting enough arc out of my plugs? I just don't want to invest in an ignition coil if it isn't going to fix the problem.

The mechanic is incorrect. A faulty coil can lead to no spark or weak spark. Replace the coil.

Well I replaced the ignition coil and double checked the gap on my plugs. everything checks out alright but it still won't start. Any other possibilities? When I checked for codes, my check engine light doesn't flash or anything...it just stays lit.

Do you have spark? If so, what color is it now? Does the fuel pump prime?

The fuel pump primes and I can smell it on the plugs. The plugs are all sparking and now the spark is a bright white like you said.

i have the same problem with my 94 dx ej2.. i haven't done anything to it though, i took it to two mechanics and theyve all said the same thing that its the fuel pump. i doubt its the pump cause i hear the pump when i put the key in the ignition. and the days it dosent turn on i dont hear the pump. to start my car up i spray the starting fluid into my car and it turns on. i believe its the main relay. ive ordered the relay from honda so friday imma put it on and see whats up

Well my problem is I'm getting plenty of gas to the chamber and I'm getting spark so it should fire. Do you guys think when my tube seals failed, I could have got oil down in there and it's messing up the combustion?

Make sure the plug wires are connected in the proper firing order on the cap. Also check the mechanical timing.

I have a couple contradicting problems with the spark plug order on the cap. what is the actual order for a D15B7. Right now they are at
---2
4----1
---3

As you are looking at the cap with the front of the car to the right.
I put a rod down the #1 valve and turned the crank. The rod hit the peak high point with the rotor facing my #1 spot as I have shown now. Could I be 180 degrees off?

That was the problem. All the manuals I had showed the wrong positions on the cap. I flipped it 180 and she fired right up! Thanks a ton!
