I searched, and read about 100 threads on this, but I can't find an answer.

I recently bought a 94 Sol that had its airbags deployed. I got a pair of bags from a 95 that DID fit. The wreck didn't look too bad. The hood is wrinkled, and lost one light, and the fenders are a bit crunched, but it didn't look like it was too bad a wreck...

Anyway, I hooked the new bags in, and read how to reset the light. Problem is, the SRS light won't go out unless I turn the key off! I can't reset it, if its not co-operating. The wire I'm jumping should be the yellow harness with 2 grey wires, that clips to the right side of the fuse panel, correct??

Does anyone know what to do now??

Yeah, thanks tho. I'm trying to get inspected etc.

Carfax doesn't have the accident or report of deployment, so I'd like to try to make it look that way.

there is an SRS computer behind the dash on the floor in the middle behind the console
replace that or check the fuses and relays

Well, if you know how big of a PITA that is to do, then you know why I'm asking first.

Plus, I don't want to shell out yet another $50-100 on this. I've still got tune-up and tires to go just to be a daily.

Seems shady as hell. If it has been in a accident bad enough to deploy the air bags it should have been reported. Why not take the car to a licensed re builder as it sounds like the car needs a salvage title.

make sure you plugged everything in. last time i forgot to plug one of the airbags in and, it wouldn't let me reset too.

NAC cause its MY car now, and I don't care. If you see the hood you would agree that it was NOT a salvage car by any means! I've been driving one for over 10 years, and it was time to get one that I liked better. I gave my dad the old one, as it used to be his anyway. I LOVE my Sol, and am NOT going to rip anyone off, as I plan to own it for ANOTHER 10 years or more!

Look, if you want to accuse me of something, do it by PM, stop trolling my thread. I'm asking legit questions here!



Vaymoon, I checked the plugs on the bags, and they fit.

I'd still like to know about the sensors and head unit. I've read so many things today, and it all conflicted each other.

Can you post a photo of what the MES looks like on your 1994 Del Sol? I am not trying to thread-jack here I just thought you might be able to help me out. I am having this same issue on my 1993 Del Sol Si and I cannot seem to find the MES. Can you help me out with a photo?

I can tell you that sometimes the control module has to be replaced when there is a multiple deployment or if one of the sensors is damaged. The process of activating the airbags in order to deploy them can actually destroy the sensors and SRS computer.

It seems that Honda and many other manufacturers originally thought that if their airbags were ever deployed it would mean that the car was hit so hard that it would be totaled anyway. And so if the whole system was trashed during the deployment it wouldn't matter because the car would be on the way to the junk yard. So, in your case you may have to replace the SRS computer, the right/left sensors, and the airbags in order for your system to work properly again.

Nowadays, when an airbag is deployed on modern vehicles those parts which are consumed during the deployment can be replaced and the main computer isn't effected. But originally the airbag system was 100% consumable and so ANY deployment required a total replacement of every part of the SRS system.

I answered in your thread. Also, 93 and 94 are two different beasts, as is 96-97 from 94-95 (found that out the EXPENSAVE way) While they are kinda alike, from what I can tell (how to reset etc) the plugs are different sizes, and go to different places. (but not too far)

I appreciated your answer on my thread...but for some reason I cannot find this friggin plug. That is why I was hoping somebody who had an early model del sol could post a photo of where the MES is and what it looks like....maybe even what color the wires are that come out of the connector. WOW I would be really happy then.

As for your problem...our issues are the same...your car won't "see" the new airbags until you actually reset the SRS warning system. So, what I am thinking is that maybe you aren't using the MES plug...maybe you haven't found the right plug either. Because, everybody that finds this plug has nearly 100% success in a reset. However once reset if there is any problem with parts in the system your SRS light will come back on again almost immediately. I would suspect that that is what is happening with your setup.

Plus, I have already read in several places that when an airbag is deployed on a 1993-1996 model Honda it almost always results in damage to the SRS control computer. Unfortunately, I think your SRS control computer is bad. But the only way you can be 100% certain that it is bad is if we can together make 100% sure that you are using the MES plug and doing the reset properly.

I would be that both of us are using the wrong connector and it isn't actually the MES plug that we are messing with.

Yeah, from what I've read, (and it all seemed to conflict each other) my plug is the one on the side of the box, not the top one.

The plug on dads 93 is yellow (like the harness), and its got a grommet around it so I cant see what wires are on there, but its the only one with only 2 connections on the plug in the whole thing. The other wire that goes to the fuse box is a three wire, that are all grey.

Hope that helps, and really, a pic wont help lol. If you see my rear window thread, you will see why lol.

I'd also like conformation from someone who knows for sure about the SRS dying. RON?? lol

I found the two plugs that are yellow...but I know for a fact that they aren't the MES. It is really obvious that the plugs are real wiring plugs and not a reset mechanism.

I will keep searching.

If you look closely at that you will see it mentions 1994 Del Sol's...and as such doesn't include my car since mine is a 1993. I know most stuff on Honda's is the same for each model of each year...but in this case the 1993 model Civic and Del Sol are not included as being able to have the MES used to reset the SRS light.

This is why I was asking for anybody who has a 1993 model to step up and show us where the MES is...or if there is one on the car at all.
