94 si GSR Swap

So Ive got my DSM up for sale on another forum, and I got a rather interesting offer, figured Id see what you guys thought.

I got offered a 94 hatch si model with a GSR swap, 70k on the swap, done at a local shop. It has 250k on the chassis, but 70k on the GSR motor and tranny. Car is primered, but he swears its clean, and I would have it painted anyway. No body kits, owner is performance oriented. It also comes with a fresh b16 motor, here is what he said about the motor:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">well I just put all of my skunk2 stuff on my b16 yesterday.....dual valve springs and retainers, intake manifold, and cams. So now the hard work is all done and believe me I know that it was done right. So i am offering a $2000+ setup already put together for what ever you want to do with it plus exedy stage 1 to go with the b16 and all the accesories like an ac compressor with bracket and any thing else I have. This is a one time offer because in about a week the motor will go in my gsr. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Mods are:
AEM CAI
DC Header 4 into 1 with greddy catback
Fidanza lightweight flywheel with Ironman stage 3 clutch
Test pipe
Crome tuned
Eibach sportlines on kyb gr2s with polyurethane bushings
Bronze rota circuit 8's with brand new dunlops
JDM honda taillights with the white and red with out amber
JDM Headlights

I was told I could sell/trade that b16 motor for a turbo setup and it could run 12's? Im not sure what I want to do as my DSM is clean as hell and is nicely modded, runs 12's as its sitting without the 50 trim/fmic/2g maf installed.

Am I going to be disappointed performance wise? Going from a 12 second car to a 14 second car? Would I be happy if I boosted it? Just not too sure what to do here. If its not obvious, Im somewhat of a Honda noob. I know alot about DSM's, but not much when it comes to the world of Honda's.

Here is my DSM for those that are actually interested, so you can see what I may be trading for this hatch. I will post pics of the hatch tomorrow night as well.

Thanks for your time and patience.

well for one, if it has a b16 then it's not a gsr swap. and yeah you would definitly notice the difference between the cars.but you'll get a bias opion from me. lol, i say go with the honda. make sure to drive it GOOD. then it's up to you.

and the taillights definitly sound like some ebay stuff.

Re: 94 si GSR Swap (aguynamedpat)

correct me if im wrong but i think he meant it has a gsr motor in the engine bay and it comes with an additional engine (the b16)

If you get this, sell me the GSR motor.

Thats correct. GSR motor in the car, b16 comes separate. I just dont know if Im ready to take that step down in performance. AWD Turbo to FWD N/A. Even if I boosted the honda, traction would obvioulsy be a major issue. My old 95 GST had traction issues and when I sold it it dynoed at 285hp, like 270tq.

It's definitely different. The thing I really liked about my N/A honda over all my friends turbo cars is the clean & accurate throttle response. Most of the stock turbo cars aren't too bad, especially the larger displacement STi. But modded turbo cars can be much more of a handful (or foot-full) to take through the twisties. It's kinda like switching from an Broad-sword to a scalpel. That is as long as the suspension & brakes are all in good condition. If they aren't, you will be doing quite a bit of work and spending quite a bit of money to get the car into shape so check it inside & out.

Test drive it and make sure you like it before making your decision. And try not to fall for the sellers high-pressure sales. And forget about the B16 (unless your gonna build a B20 short-block for it). At best, you can swap the good parts over to the GSR and sell the thing. It's completely pointless to go from 1.8 to a 1.6...

And ask yourself why the guy has a B16 ready to go in the car anyways. Is the GSR on it's last leg? Is something wrong with it?

Re: (94eg!)

I think the guy has two cars, a DC2(no motor, waiting for the built B16) and the EG with the B18c1/c.

Like Pat said though, test drive the car and see if you like it. An EG with a GSR motor is a nice car to have and if he is throwing in a complete B16 that is built right you can easily sell that for 2k+ and make some money. Would this car be your DD if you purchased it and boosted it or track use?

Keep the DSM and buy my 4g63 COP Setup https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

BlueDragon436 07-02-2007 04:22 PM

IMHO I would definately get the hatch with the GSR engine and sell the B16 as said above. You will love the performance of that setup. Why are you selling your DSM anyways???

aguynamedpat 07-02-2007 05:43 PM

Re: (BlueDragon436)

Im not sure Id love the performance of it, its 2 seconds slower than my DSM. I was selling it because I wanted to grab this GalantVR4 that was for sale, but it got sold, then I got offered this hatch.

Re: (aguynamedpat)

iono i always been a N/A person. all my motors always made good power. for honda's a 200hp na is equivalent to a 300hp turbo set-up. and the throttle response is so much better
