94 EG CX help
Okay I am totally new to this stuff. I have a bone stock 94 EG CX. I was looking to swap out the motor for something decent. What motor would you guys recommend and is it something I would be able to do myself? As far as coilovers and stuff go, what brand do you guys recommend? Where would you guys start with this project? Again thanks in advance cause I am pretty much very new to all of this. thanks

also, just look in the FAQ at the top of this forum, there is a section with misc info that talks about this as well..
as far as coils, what do you want to ultimately do with the car like auto cross, drag, daily driving *which im assuming* and figure out a reasonable budget and go from there

in my opinion, i would get an alarm, then work on the suspension...
i personally have had skunk2 coils and tokico blues and my car handled like a champ... currently my hatch has some nuespeed coils and stock struts *yes shitty i know* and its bouncy...
i havent had any experience with konis and ground controls, but i have NEVER heard anything bad about them

Re: 94 EG CX help (dzaazter)
Which clusters can fit into my CX without to much modifying? Would I be able to use a stock CX tranny on a d16Z6 or should I look for a new tranny? Was looking toward a b16 but I can get a D16z6 right now. Thanks for all the help guys.

CX tranny will bolt up to a D16Z6, all '92 - '00 D-series transmissions are interchangeable, that being said the CX transmission is geared very long. Any '92 - '95 civic gauge cluster will drop right in any work 100% plug and play, i'd go with the Si/EX cluster personally.

Re: 94 EG CX help (dzaazter)
What tranny would you suggest then? I might as well change everything out at one time. Oh, and what ECU should I be getting for the D16? Thanks for all the help so far!

Re: 94 EG CX help (dzaazter)
For a transmission get either an EX/Si tranny, this is what the D16Z6 came with from the factory, or a JDM D15B Vtec tranny, some of these, not all have a limited slip differential making them highly desireably for drag racing. For the ECU get a P28, these came in '92 - '95 EX/Si's

Okay, how much are those suspension items named above? Thanks, I got confirmation on the motor. I just need to find a tranny for it now. Hopefully someone on the local forums has one. I can also get my hands on a B16. Of the two, which one would you guys buy?

For that price i'd grab it, your gonna need axles, ECU (P30) b series shift linkage from an integra (Del Sol wont work), mounts, upper and lower rad hoses i believe, distributor if the engine doesn't come with one.

Re: 94 EG CX help (dzaazter)
So I've narrowed my choices.
D16Z6, with no tranny, ecu, or harness. For $300
JDM B16 pretty much everything is there. For $700
Tein Basics, used for $550ish (hopefully)
Still looking for a cluster. Because the CX doesn't have rpm gauge, can I still get a cluster and have the RPM work? What else besides the 92-95 ex/si clusters can I use? I can get a 94 or 97 gsr cluster, but they arent plug and play right?

GSR cluster wont be plug an play, can and has been done, but its a lot of work for nothing IMO. you could get a JDM EG6/EG9 cluster, white faced gauges, red needles. lights up amber and has an 8200RPM redline, or an EDM cluster, i think they came in VTi's 8000RPM redline, black faced gauges with red needles, i believe these light up amber. Thats really about all i can think of, they're all plug and play, theres no extra wiring for the tach, its integrated into all EG harnesses, even the CX.

So as far as suspension goes. Wha are all the parts to it? Shocks, struts, etc. So if I get say coilovers, those are mainly to drop the car right? I would still need shocks, struts, dampers, cambers? Im trying to learn everything, thanks guys.

What do you guys think of a 2000 B16 bottom and a 94 del sol head? I have a guy giving me a good deal on this motor.

Re: 94 EG CX help (dzaazter)
The $700.00 B16A swap sounds fishy at best. That is a completely un heard of price for a true "complete swap" also being the right OBD1 generation, etc.
I'm guessing:
1. It's stolen
2. It's a pre-OBD swap that will require way more extra money than it's worth to get running right in your OBD1 car

Dude do yourself a favor and save up enough money to but a 100% legit, complete swap all coming from the same vehicle.
There's no logical reason for swaping a Del Sol VTEC head onto a 2000 B16A2 bottom end unless someone was being really cheap, or someone blew a head gasket, broke a t-belt and bent valves, or over revved it and did damage.
I'd give someone a good deal on a shady engine too, but I'm not into shady engines in the first place.

Re: 94 EG CX help (dzaazter)
yeah, the $700 B16 was a OBD0 so I scratched that deal. And I'll take your advice on the other one. Thanks for the help. Hard to find motors here in hawaii because shipping is so much from the mainland and people here like to try and do makeshift things.

Good deal.
Since K swaps are becoming the rage perhaps you can pick up someone's "obsolete" B swap when they go K.
