94 Del Sol - Cluster Shortage
I was doing a bulb to led swap on my 94" Del sol 5 speed SI. I changed all the bulbs to Led's yes the warning lights as well. Plugged the harness in, and got smoke coming from the left side of the harness I think. The smoke was almost dissipated by the time I got the cluster back out. I had plugged it in before that with no issues and everything worked. I checked the fuse, nothing is blown. My inspection does not reveal any of the wires burnt. And the connections on the cluster side are not burnt. Now the only lights that work are my blinkers, brake, and high beem lights. None of the switch lights work or other indicator lights or backgrounds lights. Nor do the replaceable lights in the climate control. All the stock LED lights that cannot be removed still work. my Question is how do I check which harness input is bad? That smoke could have coming from either one of them. Which harness controls the lights I mentioned? When I say left harness I mean the one closest to the drivers door. Any insight on this guys?

Smoke may have come from the dimmer control in the dash on the left side. That will kill the HVAC panel background lights.
With cluster unplugged, will all the lights on the outside of the car work? Does the engine start and run?

Yes it will, when I can get the thing to crank. Still have not gotten my crank, no start issue completely worked out. The fuses are fine. I think you are right about the dimmer it was coming from that area. I think I am going to order a another harness since you can find them so cheap on eBay. Do they sell those dimmer switches seperate? Oh thanks to both of you for being, well not dicks! As I have found that there is a very tough crowd here!

Oh Ron, what I meant by no lights was no dash lights for the back ground, I did get the cel light, oil light, brake light, blinkers, high beam indicator lights to work on the cluster panel. Sorry I did not articulate that better. Again, thanks for not being a dick! I think I probably need to put that as my signature..... Lol

So the taillights and parking lights work, right?
If so, unplug the dimmer switch. In the connector, use a paperclip or wire to short the red wire pin to the black wire pin in the connector. When you turn the light switch one click, do the cluster and climate control lights now work?

Okie dokie, now come to my house and fix my intermittent crank no start problem! Lol! The dude helping me thinks it a short somewhere due to the engine swap someone did before me. Who knows I have been dealing with it for 3 years. Changed everything in the ignition realm. I honestly think the fuel pump is dieing intermittently. I hear it prime, it will start and then act like it is running out of gas going down the road. Changed filter, distributor, seniors, Ecu, main rely. Still no go Uggg! Oh adjusted timming belt as well.
