Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what is the factory ride height on the Si Hatch? Measured from the center of the wheel to fender? Front and rear?

I recently got this car. However, the previous owner lowered it so bad. Only ~3 inches of ground clearane. The car equipped with yellow springs without any brand names. It has 7-8 spirals. Does anyone have any clue? I couldn't think of much company that makes yellow springs.

Please help this newbie. I'd appricate all the inputs,

Possibly Neuspeed racing springs, not 100% tho, other t hen that im not really sure, ~3 inches of clearence is not much, maybe somebody jerry rigged their own set and painted em!

i think factory ride height on Civic's are 3-4 inches. i measured from the top of the tire to the fender.

Does anyone knows a link to those factory spec. on the ride height? Anyone has a helm book and able to find this out for me? I'd be appricated. Thanks.

5.9" from bottom of side-skirt to floor. Around there...of course rims, tire size, and tire pressure come into play.

thats how my 92 si was... now theres no gap

Hmm,.... weird taht ppl. look at the height this way. Is that how to measure the ride height? I thought its suppose to measure from the center of the wheel to the fender??

I went looking through my 92 civic service manual but couldn't find a spec for the wheel gap, but from ground level to the top of the roof at the highest spot, it lists 1,350mm or 53.1". hope this helps some.

The reason I asked this because I want to know how much I drop if I swap in a set of coil over suspension.

I've always understood ride height = distance from ground to frame/side rails/etc.

you could put some 185/50/13's on your car, and leave the stock springs on and this would lower the ride height on my scale, and raise it on the fender gap scale.

If I am not mistaken, I think you are refering to "Ground clearance".

In racing ride height is known as the distance from the grund to the frame/rockerpanel/welded seam/ etc

it's the height at which the car rides.

I think most people wll agree that ride height = ground clearance

Then, can you tell me what is the measurement "from the wheel's center to fender"?

I believe that the term "ground clearance" is a subset of the "ride height" simply it takes a partial role.

Just like when ppl. get a set of lowering springs. If the springs are 2" drop, it doesn't mean that you would have the same ground clearance after the additional swap of smaller/bigger wheels.

Just a thought.

Ride height is measured from the frame to the ground. Measuring from the center of the wheel or top of the tire to the fender is not a good measurement at all, it's very inaccurate.

We are actually talking about the same thing.

Which is different from (which I got mixed up in all the posts)

tire to fender is not accurate ride height. If you put low profile 13" this would indicate a HUGE ride height compared to tall profile 15" tires, while you car would ACTUALLY be lower with the low profile 13's.

The most accurate way to measure ride height, is to find a point on the frame or chassis, that is not used to jack up the car, or would be impacted by the road or other hazards.

Using this point on the chassis, and a determined fixed point on the ground for each of the 4 measurements.

Make sure to use the same 4 chassis locatoins and the same 4 ground locations every time it is measured.

No it means the the car is riding 2" lower.

this 2" could be 2" lower in ground clearance, or measure from the top of the roof to the ground..


but the fender to center of wheel,
CAN be differernt depending on the geometry of the suspension and wheel offset
