94 Civic Si - DOHC ZC engine swap problems (solved)
Hello peeps,
As said in the intro; first Honda Civic I bought.
I spotted a Honda Civic SI; year 94 and bought it. It has been one owner only and the old man had a very bad experience with the car.
He had a D16a9 DOHC on the car and his timing belt broke. He found a DOHC ZC engine (black cam cover) and the garage failed to start the car with the new ZC Engine. After which he left the car lying since like 6 months and I bought it.
After checking the car they had messed with the distributor. We tried assembling another distributor and fitted on the car. But the issues getting are as follows:
The car is not having proper idle.
The car has very low power.. As if running a tired D12b carb (or even slower)
The temp is going up when pushing the car hard. And as soon as you release the gas pedal, the temp goes down.
You hear a clicking sound when pressing the gas as if the vehicle has timing issues.
Do you guys think that they have wrong mounted the timing belt? Missed teeth? Or is it the distributor dooming again?
Thanks and best regards,
Yash

Post (i) the ECU used to run the zc and (ii) also the CEL codes.
Try bleeding the cooling system.
Check the ignition timing.

Hello. Been able to resolve the issue.
They had used a d16a9 distributor which was not able the good angle for timing.
Swap the distributor axle to the ZC one with other d16a9 internal parts and it ran perfectly.
