94 civic - runs rich and poorly with high beams on and cluster lights don't work
I got a 1994 honda civic ls last night and have a couple things wrong with it was wondering if i could get some advise?
first problem is that with the car running with headlights on its fine but if you turn the highbeams on the motor rough idles and dies? as well as with the turn signals?
I have no power to any of my instrument panel?
And car seems to be runing rich as hell i think he advanced the timing on the distributor how do i change it?

Re: New civic need help??
Dimming. Check the alternator/battery. Have it tested.
No power to panel. Check fuses.
Think it's running rich. Verify that mechanical & ignition timing is correct. Perform a full tune-up regardless.

alternator is good battery is good
went to check fuses and noticed that the guy i bought this car from put his own viper car alarm system in and he has wires cut with a bunch of loose ends i dont even know where to start.
Would it be easier to just remove the alarm system all togeather? If so how should i proceed?

Runs rich, dimming lights should have nothing to do with an alarm system. How do you KNOW the alternator and battery is good?

i know the alternator isnt bad because it holds a constant 14 volts

Even still, how is that an alarm issue? maybe that jacked up wiring but I've never heard of an alarm to cause the car to run rich. I have also never heard of an alarm that would cause a car to die or almost die if you turn on your highbeams or interfere with your turn signals. I have never heard of an alarm to cause your instrument panel not to light up.
