Default 94 civic problems 2 different cars same model

My car:
Alright me and my friend both have ej1s and I picked mine up about 4 days ago. While returning back to my house my friend noticed that my car was overheating really bad so we continued to drive with the heater on blast to let it cool off. My friends believe that it's the thermostat that needs to be replaced but after seeing a lot of white smoke coming from my exhaust and a little from my engine I believe that it's a blown head gasket. I also noticed some fluid coming down from my car and I think my friend mentioned smelling burning coolent I was just wondering what you guys think would be the issue and if there's anything else that I should check that could possibly be causing my overheating? Also do you guys think my head could possibly be warped? This is my first car and I'd appreciate it if you guys could help me out.

Friends car:
He said he started his car and tried to put it into first gear Then let go of the clutch and gas it. It does not move. He'll put it back into neutral and let go of the clutch and the car dies out. He starts the car and lets go of the clutch and the car dies. He'll put It in reverse let go of the clutch and gas it car does not move. And put it in neutral car dies. It Won't let him go into gear but would get stuck into gear. Currently stuck in second. What could it be? Tranny internals? Clutch? Clutch plate? Bent shift linkage? He's wondering if anyone could help him find out what's causing all this.

If you're blowing white smoke out the exhaust, your head gasket is done. There's not much debate there. If you want to confirm, do a compression test, and a block test.

As for your friend's car, he needs to check his clutch pedal adjustment and clutch fluid.

My friend said there's definitely clutch fluid and the adjustment is fine
