94 civic/jdm b16 gen 1 swap - O2 sensor help!
I got a 94 civic with a jdm b16 gen 1 swap in it, not exactly sure what obd since the car is at the shop but the guy is telling me that a O2 sensor for this specific engine is going to cost me around $400..
I don't how that can even be right. Cant i just use the sensors from a 99 SI?
Or do i gotta figure out what OBD it is so i know how many wires there are for the sensor?
Any help is appreciated.

Re: O2 sensor help!
I figured it'd be OBD0 as well but ill go check it out to confirm.
Is 400 the right price though for any o2 sensor? Or am i being taken advantage of for being so young and ignorant?

Some wide band sensors are quite expensive. However, post the ECU in the car and whether it is chipped.

Re: O2 sensor help!
The only thing about that is i don't know what ecu it is. I had just purchased it and failed e-check and took it to a shop to get it fixed and here iam now. The previous owner didn't know what obd or the ecu either. Ive already contacted him. Didn't seem like he knew much about some of the stuff done to it.
Id be able to tell by how many wires are in the sensor correct?

Given that you have a 94 Civic, it's probably an OBD1 ECU. An ECU is the car's computer. It's located behind the front passenger's kick panel. Remove that and post a picture.

On my way to check out the ecu and find out what obd it is.
A coupe things I forgot to mention though, the guy is saying its around 400 for the part only, he's apparently not charging for labor. When I first go to turn on the car the CEL goes on then off like normal but apperently my o2 before the cat was never hooked up and was completely rusted into the exhaust system. He's say the part cost so much because it's a "souped up" engine with modifacations. It's only a b16 1st gen with a ghetto SRI and greddy headers that are 2.25 and to my cat and back it's 2.5 with a dumb ricey exhaust.
I haven't passed my e-check and really need this car for work can use any help and input I can get. I'm young and still learning all these things but 400 just does not seem right for one o2 and no labor. Thanks or any help.

Re: O2 sensor help!
Primary O2 sensors for B-series engines are not that expensive. They're also not that fussy, in that you can use a D-series O2 sensor and it'll work just fine (the only difference between all the OBD1 and OBD2 4 wire heated D/B-series O2 sensors is the length of the wire between the sensor itself and the plug, they all function the same. Direct fit NTK aftermarket should be around $160 The only time you should ever expect to pay $400 for an O2 sensor on a civic is if it's a VX/HX with the factory wideband.
Also, buy Denso or NTK, stay the hell away from Bosch O2 sensors (or anything else for that matter when it comes to Hondas)

Re: O2 sensor help!
Ask him where he pricing it? I know Honda charges like 278 for 96 civic ex sensor, I got a denso for less than 50 bucks.
Is he pricing direct from honda? I am sure you can cross reference to a denso. I would then order it on your own, easy to replace.
Many shops are are dicks and try to screw people over, sometimes with a little knowledge you will know better, plus a lot shops do crap work.

Re: O2 sensor help!
Oh btw, if it is an OBD0 B16A they have kind of a funky O2 setup where they use 2 single wire unheated O2 sensors, one of them monitors cylinders 1 and 4 the other does cylinders 2 and 3. See pic below:

Re: O2 sensor help!
I dont think it would of been converted to OBD0.... Im sure its OBD1 .. 400 is way to much for a o2.. Its only about a 100 for a sensor and I usally charge 100 for install depending on how rusted out it is... If it needs a new bung welded thats more of course.

Re: O2 sensor help!
Turns out its a mugen p28. Never had a o2 sensor connected so I'm guessing it's chip and had a o2 delete. No CEL is why I think that. Since its OBD-1 I know I'm going to need a single 4 wire o2 but should it be heated or un-heated? Could I just pick up the o2 for a 94 si?

Re: O2 sensor help!
Think I could get away with getting a cheap virgin obd1 ecu and just running it for the e check then switch back to my p28? The car was originally from another state and there and no ecu tuning shops anywhere near me.

Re: 94 civic/jdm b16 gen 1 swap - O2 sensor help!
I do eventually want a better tune but while money is tight I just wanna be able to pass e check so I can get to and from work on my own again.
Thanks for all the help. I appreciate it.
