Default 94 civic ex - high idle problem

Have had this 94 honda civic for about 8 months. Ever since I bought it it idles at 2500-3000 Rpms just sitting there.
Was wondering MAF Sensor? Map?
I'm new to Hondas and need help. The teenagers that goofed this car had no clue what they were doing

Well, let's start out the usual way. RonJ will tell you that you should have searched the forums before you made a post, then will tell you to post more accurate information on your car (details and history on both mods/symptoms), and will no doubt suggest that you obtain a Factory Service/Helms manual. others will follow with similar suggestions, and maybe some added in bits about following the proper procedure for setting timing and idle FROM that manual. Start there. Good luck.

this thread nicely covers how you should set your base idle. Read it, and follow it. If you have any questions, please don't bump that thread - just continue here in yours.

In addition to the info provided above. You may want to conduct basic maintanence on this vehicle such as replacing vaccuum lines and other replacables to ensure you dont have a vaccuum leak as well, which can lead to crummy idling. Its a good idea to make sure any used product surrounding parts is up to par before digging into its guts.

That's a pretty high idle. First off is the check engine light on? In addition to setting your base idle you may want to also check to make sure your throttle cable is adjusted correctly, check for vacuum leaks and ensure you ignition timing is correct. If you have a check engine light on fix that first as well.
