94' Civic EX Coupe..Multi-Problems
Alright, I've got a 94' Civic EX bought not too long ago. Probably have had it for 3 months now.
It's an automatic.
It's got multiple problems.
One is, idling problem.
In D, it'll idle right above 0, just enough to stay alive. But if I put it in Park, it'll idle like it normally should. My BF said it could be spark plugs, something about IACV?, or wrong ECU?
The ECU thing, which leads to this..
It does have the Single Cam VTEC motor, I think D16Z6? is it? It has VTEC written on top of it lol. But my BF put it in neutral and revved it up to the rev limiter, and it wouldn't go to its normal rev limiter point, it'd hit around 6200RPM's. Will it be a problem if I run it this way? Or should I swap out the ECU for one the EX one ASAP.
That'll be it for now. Thank you.

For your low idle, try cleaning out your throttle chamber first. The butterfly may be clogged up with carbon. f that doesnt solve the problem, then you may need to move onto cleaning the IACV. Its bolted to the backside of the intake mani and has 2 coolant hoses running to it.
Yes, D16Z6 should be correct and your ECU should be a P28 for the Z6 engine. What does the car redline at when you are driving down the road? There may be a separate neutral rev limit that is lower from the regular one. Also, was the engine cold or warmed up to operating temp. There is also a cold rev limit.
if you have the wrong ECU, then you are gong to want to get it swapped out for the correct one. You can run on an incorrect ECU as a temporary measure ONLY. Do it right the first time.

When we drove it, it was in its warm temps. And it does shift around 6K when I floor it. But at normal driving states, it'll shift like it should, around 2-3K or whatever the shift point is.
I'll take note of the above you said. And are there any chances of damaging the motor by running a non-VTEC ecu? Thanks!
