Default 94 civic ex coolant reservoir

yeterday i started to notice my car temp gauge increased a little bit and went up and down ...over and over again...atleast i made it home ..so i decided to let the car sit for about 20 minutes and let it cool down so i can check the coolant in the radiator..1st thing i checked was the reservoir..it was empty...then i check the coolant in the radiator and it was low so i add more in ..prob 3/4 of a new gallon. so i was wondering ...was it the low coolant that was making my gauge goes up?..2nd question is ..i fill up the reservoir to the full line and i was seeing does it automatically fill back up?

fill the radi up. then fill the res. but first you need to check why your coolant was so low

when you car is running a temp you can check and see if its the thermostat 2 ways. you can fill the hoses or what i do it just take the thermostat out and leave it out and see if it still acts up. My car was doing almost the same thing but it was filling my res up. i took thermostat out and still had a leak. and it ended up bing my radi cap. but if you doing see any leaks you could have a blown head gasket.

check your oil. If it looks like choco milk you will have a blown hg. Also check your radiator fan and make sure it is working.

what color flakes? If it's grey then your HG might be starting to go on you. But first I would jsut replace your thermostat. It is only $10

ALMOST the same problem occured today.i NOTICED that i always have to fill my resvoir tank up and inside my radiator has them small flakes in it to.my fan just STOPPED working,NO blown fuses at all for the fan.when i wired the fan direct to the battery and started to drive on the freeway the temp will go up until i turn my heater on BLAST.check the oil and NO blown hg..............................SO WHAT THE [freak] is up should i just change the thermostat and rad.cap or what?

had the same problem temp gauge would go up until i cut the heat on full blast. so when i got home and let it cool down and used the bleeder valve at the upper radi hose where it goes into the head. and all along it had some air in the system. i didnt think i had air and everyone told me to check for the air and i just didnt think that was it and thats what it was all along

ya I would change your thermostat and then let it sit on level ground with the cap off to get all the air bubbles out for like 15-20 min and just keep adding coolant/water till the bubbles stop coming out. If this works you only spent 10 bucks and 25 min of ur time

I tried to leave the radi cap off and lett the air bubbles work their way out and that didnt work for me. so if you have that bleeder vavle thats you best and fastest way
