Default 94 Civic CX - Clutch (?) question

So i'm not gonna buy the car (it's at a dealer, drove it today), or even trade for it, but i though i would ask this...

when you release the clutch pedal, whether its in gear or not, there's a sort of rattling noise from under the hood. it doesnt seem to slip while driving. is it the clutch? what else could it be? anyway i assume this is an issue that needs to be dealt with right away.

i'm asking so i can let the dealer know if he needs to get it fixed....thanks guys

If its a rattle at like 3-4k, especially in first and second gear...its probably the header or cat heat sheild.

Mine does the same thing, IF thats what you're talking about.

Also..my clutch pedal needs to be regreased so it squeaks a bit. I doubt thats what your issue is though.

If it was a killer deal, I wouldnt pass the car up because of that.

EDIT: I doubt its the heat sheild now since I reread your post and you said it happens even when its not in gear and parked. Not exactly sure in that case.

Yikes...not a fun replacement if you're not motivated/mechanically inclined. If the throwout bearing IS the problem...it still may not keep me from buying the car depending soley on the overall condition and more importantly...the price.

I did not know that was a symptom for a throwout bearing, I'll have to keep that in mind.

Also, Pinkmaggit....I saw in another thread the Input Shaft Bearing can have the same type of symptom. What's your thoughts on the odds of it being that?

I Shot Fifty Cent:

well, i have a perfect EG coupe (with an auto, tho), so i was just lookin for a 5spd. unfortunately the CX has the piddly little 70hp d15, so i'm not gonna go for it. i'll sit it out and wait for a better deal

thanks guys, i'll call the dealer today (a friend of mine) and he'll get the clutch/isb/tob checked out. i appreciate the input.
