Re: Some ECU Questions
the check engine light is coming on when i get on it around 3rd gear and then when i shut the car off and turn it back on its gone like it resets it self but when the check engine light comes on i loose my vtec for some reason. thats why im asking cause i was told it was a 3 stage and i dont know im confused my self so i was seeing if i could get some help. i was told jdm edition B16A and that its a 3 stage motor and not a 2 stage. i have full exhaust, intake, intake manifold new, and the chipped ECu

And please use punctuation in your posts. It's difficult to understand what you want to say otherwise.

not sure what stage 3 motor means but the CEL problem definitley a bigger concern. you need to find out why is coming on first then try to firger out what stage you motor is.

Re: Some ECU Questions
what jon means to say is, jump the two prong connector located above your ecu with a paper clip or wire. When u do this the check engine light will flash a code. Long flashes =10sand short flashes=1s. You take the code down and go look it up or tell us on here. I also think u should just get the proper ecu for the motor and not chipped junk. as for the hondata, its overkill for u but yes the s300

Pull the code have someone jump the connector while you are sitting in your driveway holding the clutch and brake and put it into 3rd

Re: Some ECU Questions
and the weird thing about the check engine light is, that it only comes on when i get on through first and second and then going into third it comes on until i restart the car its very confusing so i dont know if i would be able to check the code that way since it doesnt stay on the whole time but im ganna check asap

Re: Some ECU Questions
we know what a jdm d15B is.
but look at your keyboard. how close is D15B to B16A? not very huh?
some people just believe what they're told. this isn't need for speed engines don't go in stages. its a b16a. you lose vtec because the MIL is on. fix that then worry about getting it chipped. at which you should get neptune.

Re: Some ECU Questions
He needs to find a tuner first and see what he wants to tune on over what people on the internet are telling him.
Maybe he was telling him about a stage 3 clutch and the OP was in a F&F day dream lol

Re: Some ECU Questions
take a pic of you motor and post it so we can tell you what you have lol. if the light stays of when you restart the car, then it is a soft code. meaning that it isnt a big problem (most of the time). but it sounds like it is your o2 sensor possible

Re: Some ECU Questions
3 stage vtec (not v-tech, that's an electronics company) simply means that there are three different possible cam/valve combinations. Usually, step 1 is 1 1/2 intake valves opening for economy, step 2 is 2 intake valves opening, and stage 3 is 2 intake valves opening on a more aggressive lobe. It doesn't mean you have to get S300, it just means tuning it will be even more entertaining for the poor bastard who has to deal with it. There, now you know what "3 stage vtec" means.
If the CEL only comes on when you hit third while driving, go for a drive on a road that you KNOW you can safely pull off on. Once you hit third and the CEL comes on, don't turn off the car, just pull the code.

Re: 94 civic coupe/B16A -- Some ECU Questions
thats nice and all but as far as i know b16a do not have 3 stage vtec.
or have a friend ride with and have him put the clip in while your driving and it pops up.

I don't even know what you have now, so I can't say yes or no to that. Honestly, I don't even think we know for sure if you have a D16 or a B16B. Can you clarify that for us?
