93 VX engine into 96 EX?
My friend has a 96 EX vtech 5-speed that the engine went bad on. He wants me to see about putting in the engine from the 93 VX non-vtech 5-speed he bought as a replacement. What would be needed to be done and what supplies would I need.

wouldn't advise putting in a vx motor, it is actually v-tec-e. will get great gas mileage w/no kind of power. but search is your friend. there are many threads on what you would need.

Well, he has a good engine in a bucket of a car and a bad engine in a descent car. What would you do. He doesn't care about fast. he just wants something better.
I would search but I am completely unfamiliar with civics and wouldn't know where to start. Not to mention this is a very odd swap

start i nthe top right corner with the button that says search, and you'll get a lot of hits regarding swaps, different engines, and what you would need.

mix parts if head is bad put vx head with the y8 intake manifold if it works cause vx has a shitty small intake manifold with a tb that looks like a pee hole and to think that that vx tranny will make u slower cause it wont... with my same mods intake exhaust i ran a 15.9 in my ex with ex tranny well trans took a **** now i have a vx tranny and took it to track ran 16.3 with a 2.6 60 foot track was shitty that night i trapped higher with the vx tranny i trapped 87

VX tranny won't slow you down eh? I'm calling BULLSHIT on this one. Gear ratio on the vx is CRAP, my car feels like a rocket with my new Y8 transmission in comparison to the vx.

Let me try this from a different angle.
Will the wiring harness work?
Which computer should be used?
Will the exaust manifold on the 93 engine bolt right to the 96 exaust?
Which motor mounts should be used? Are they different?
Which intake manifold should I use?
Will the 93 engine bolt right to the 96 transmission?

Re: (dcsports)
ask him what? if the gear ratio's in a Y8 transmission are better than the one's found in the vx transmission? Or are you stating that a vehicle equipped with a vx tranny will run the same 1/4 mile as a vehicle equipped with y8 tranny? Even if they do run the same times i know from personal experience that driving a d16z6 equipped vehicle and running a vx transmission is not a fun experience even on the highway. let alone on the track. Not being condescending just curious what you're getting at.

Anyone have some real information besides that his EX will no longer be the Uber fast track demon it was from the factory.
Seriously, I'm just trying to help a friend have something less annoying to drive.

Re: (zymurgyjwt)
Will the wiring harness work?
-Should work. Already wired for VTEC. I am not up on the differences in OBDI vs OBDII but there could be some wires/plugs unused.
Which computer should be used?
-I would go with an OBDI ECU. I cant confirm this yet, but I hear these motors run great with a P28. I have the necessary parts, just a matter fo rewiring to 4wire O2 and plugging everything up Would need an OBDIIa - ODBI harness
Will the exaust manifold on the 93 engine bolt right to the 96 exaust?
-Hmmmm could be different. I believe the VX has the cat right on the exhaust manifold while the EX has the cat after the header and "downpipe"
Which motor mounts should be used? Are they different?
-Should be the same for d series.
Which intake manifold should I use?
-EX. Either would be compatible
Will the 93 engine bolt right to the 96 transmission?
-Believe so

Re: (Unit02VXHatch)
I put a vx motor into my 97 coupe after I pulled my tubo gsr motor out of the coupe and put it into the VX (switched motors from car to car)
My original wiring harness (97 coupe) was modified alredy for a obd1 b series motor so all I had to do was change two clips near the dist. And I still have to fix the o2 as I get a CEL for it.
I use the coupe with VX motor as my daily beater.
