93 honda cx head or engine trans swap
I HAVE A 93 CIVIC WITH THE 1500 CC AND AUTO TRANS THAT I HAVE CONVERTED INTO A MINISTOCKER TO RUN AT MY LOCAL 1/3 MILE OVAL TRACK. THIS MOTOR AND TRANS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION.
I HAVE A 91 CIVIC SI WITH THE 5 SPEED MANUAL, THAT IS MY PARTS CAR. COUPLE OF QUESTIONS.
1) ARE THE HEADS THE SAME? ANY CHANCE THE SI MOTOR HAS A DIFFERENT CAM OR BIGGER VALVES?
2) IS THE TRANSMISSION SWAP A BOLT IN? ARE AXLE LENGTHS THE SAME?
3) ARE THE ECU'S THE SAME?
4) HOW MUCH MORE HORSEPOWER DOES THE 1600 SI ENGINE MAKE THAN THE 1500 CC CX ENGINE?
5) WOULD THE SI HEAD FIT ON THE 1500 CC MOTOR? ANY ADVANTAGES?
6) ANY DIFFERENCES IN SI BRAKES, SPRINGS, SUSPENSIONS?
I AM TRYING TO MAKE THIS CAR TURN LEFT ON A 1/3 MILE ASHPHALT TRACK, ANY SUGGESTIONS WITHIN REASON?
THANKS DOUG BELL

1: if you have a cx you have an 8valve head so the si is better and compatible
2:Trans is different as the Si is a cable trans and your newer eg is hydraulic
3:Ecus are different also...obd 0 vs obd 1
4:108 vs 75 or so
5: yes .. much better
6: not really!!

Re: 93 honda cx head or engine trans swap (STOCK CAR HONDA)
1) Heads are not the same. The si has 16 valves while the cx only has 8. Si also has a much better cam.
2)The si tranny will bolt up, but its clutch is operated by a cable, while the cx clutch is operated by a hydraulic system. The si, however, has much better gearing for acceleration.
3)No, ecus are different. The cx is obd1 while the si is obd0. The ecu plugs are different too. No one that I know of makes an obd1 to obd0 coversion harness. You could use an obd1 dx ecu, though.
4)I believe the si makes 102 or 106 hp while the cx motor makes 70hp.
5)This depends on your block. SOME cx pistons only have valve reliefs for 8 valves while others have reliefs for 16 valves. The only way to find out is to pull the head. Otherwise the head will bolt on. You will also have to use the obd0 distributor (will require swapping plugs at the least)
6)Yes, but I dont know if they are interchangeable. You'll have to do some searching for that info.
