Default 93 Hatch Si starting problem

As I turned on my car today it turned on but it took a while. At first it didn't even want to turn over at all. Then it kicked in and it whined like it was dying out. Do you think it could be the starter or the battery?

I bought the car second hand from someone who claimed to have taken good care of the car. The car has about 130k miles on it. Roughly 10k is from me.

I've done routine oil/plug changes etc.

Again, the problem is that it whines when I turn the key. Sounds like it doesn't really want to start but eventually starts up.

What could be the problem?

The starter miight be going bad, but also check your fuel filter and air filter, the engine might be gasping for gas and air, and a clogged fuel filter can cuase the car to do that.

I noticed that with the a/c full blast it often chokes or sounds like it's gonna stop running but blasts through it some how. It's weird. Do you think it could be the fuel filter?

I recently checked my air filter and it was clean.

what do you mean by whine noise? like trickhonda said it could be your starter going bad. take it to autozone or napa so it can be test to see if your starter is bad or not.

yea check your starter but also check your fuel. it may not be that but if you have a fuel leak it might take a while to start up. thats what happen to me. does it seem to waste a lot of gas?

No it doesn't waste gas. It only started happening today.

As far as the whining noise... it turns over and starts but it takes a while. Usually I turn the key and it'll start up. Now I turn the key and it'll make that turning over noise but kinda in slow motion and then start up eventually.

Braddah.. dakine da bugga is da battery.

Go call around da local auto places and check to see if they can check da thing for ya. If not go to Pearl Ridge and go to sears to check da battery ( if sears is still there I havent been back home there in 7 years )

Dont forget to eat da rice and da spam too

If none of this fixes, check your timing.. belt might have skipped a tooth.

like everyone said, could be starter or your main relay going bad or not enough gas in your gas tank.

I went through to main relays already soo i know how it feels etc....

If it's slow turning over then it's probably your battery. Battery should be replaced, and if the problem persists then it would be a good idea to have the alternator checked to make sure it is generating enough power (i.e. to charge the battery) and also check the starter.

Fuel delivery problems, main relay, and timing belt would not cause a slow crank.

Take your car to autozone and let them perform an electrical system analysis - then you will know what to spend your $$$$ on to fix it.

Almost any service station with a mechanic will do it for you. I think even sears will do it.
