Default 93 hatch with b18c1

Hello im very new to this forumn. As u can see by my posts. I have a 93 hatch with a B18c1 engine. Engine runs great but sometime when im at a dead stop in neutral, my rpm's reve betweeen 1K and 2K, up and down...without touching the throttle. I was curious if anyone happens to know what could be causing this problem? it doesnt happen all the time, just once in a while. Doesnt sound serious but its annoying. So any help would be greatly appreciated. thanx

It sounds like it would be your FITV (fast idle thermo valve). Mine was doing that a couple of weeks ago... screwed it back in and all is fine.

check ur vacuum lines that connect to the intake manifold.

that's what usually has caused it for me and ppl i know in the past.

The motor origionally came with the TB that has the FITV but was later replaced with a bored OBD0 TB that didn't have the FITV. Didn't cause this problem or any spurratic idling. The reason I think the FITV isn't the culprit is because if it is it will usually only cause this issue when the engine is warming up. But it could be staying open and allowing too much air in at idle when the car is warm. Ok remove the intake and start the car. Look inside your throttle body. You will see two holes on the inside closest to the firewall. Put your finger over the bottom hole. You should feel suction on this hole until the coolant warms up to 86°F (30°C). If you don't get suction replace the FITV and re-check. If you still have suction on that hole when the fan comes on check the coolant level and check for air in the coolant. If OK, replace the FITV and re-check. The Factory Service Manual notes that the FITV is adjusted from the factory and should not be disassembled. But **** that. Where I said replace just open the side of it. There will be a thing that is like a rounded metal stopper and around that is this white thermo wax that is threaded in the FITV. There are two notches on the side of this wax so you can usually turn it with a flat head maybe 2 is a better idea though.. **** with that a little and see if the problem goes away. But only do so after you have confirmed that either there is no suction when cold or there is still suction when warm on that hole. Let us know if this helps/fixes the problem..
