Default 93 EX A/C button issue

So I recently bought a 93 ex coupe and have been sorting out some issues before making it a DD. The AC will work and blow ice cold but sometimes just shut off. I have figured out that the actual AC button on the dash is the problem. It always lights up green as it should but I have to press it in hard to get the compressor to kick on. Sometimes I press it 3-4 times before AC comes on then it shuts off again at the first bump. Is there anyway to fix this or do I need a new climate control unit? Is there a bad wire connection or bad solder joint to check?

does the light flicker? take out the climate dealy and clean in and around the buttom. take off the face and check the buttons contacts. they are pretty much free from junkyards.

sounds like the on button has a cold solder.. find a buddy to drive and just mash the button in firmly as you drive and see if the ac keeps working.. if while applying pressure to the button i would almost bet you gotta cracked solder joint connecting the button to the board.

Thats what I thought it might be. I guess I will pull the climate control unit and post my findings. Thanks

My 94 CX is the same. I actually have a wooden bbq skewer that I cut short (2"). I pop out the AC button and stick the pointy end of the stick down inside ABOVE the circuit board in the upper left corner of the button hole until it gets snug. The pressure on the board always gets the AC to kick on. I keep either the button cover or the skewer in my ash tray when not in use.

BTW: The light flickering has little to do with the button actually functioning. The button is really a double switch inside the unit. When you push it, one switch lights up the light, and the other switch completes the circuit to fire the compressor. Either one could be broken independently.

I had the same problem, all of the solder joints inside the unit were cracked. Took a good night sitting with it and a soldering iron and some desoldering braid, got all the solder joints replaced with fresh ones and I haven't had any problems since.
