I was driving and it started with the car turning off when i let go of the gas. Then five minutes later it started jerking for a mile then it turned off. Now it wont start fully. The engine rotates, i checked the timing its ok. Any help please i need it for school.

Does the fuel pump prime?

Is there bright white spark at the plugs?

Any CEL codes?

The fuel pump turns on every time. there are no cell codes. theres fuel. how do i check for the white spark?

Look inside your distributor and see if by chance it's just a lost rotor screw.

i had an msd setup in there i replaced it with the stock coil and cap. there gas on the plugs and there no spark. but i put the wire on top of one the bolts connected to the valve cover and i heard some spark

so you have weak spark by the sound of it. Pull off your cap and look at the points. If they're carboned up then clean them with a wire brush and reinstall the cap and see what it does then. Also while you are in there check the rotor and see if its carboned up too. If they are both fine then check out your dizzy. Could be going bad.

i bgot that dizzy last year. i checked them its good. it seem like when i let the car sit there for long periouds of time the car sounds like it will start but then it doesnt. the longer i leave it waiting the closer it gets to starting

check your distributer,sparkplugs wires kuz thats what happened on mine

i did there good. i tool the valve cover off and checked the timing and when i cranked it i heard a screatching noise from the block.. before i hear i compression noises but now it soundslike scratching!

could be something cracked or broken internally. Cracked internalls would do something like that cause when theya re nice and cool they work just fine still, but once the block and everything heats up that crack will expand and make it not work correctly. Then once everything starts to cool down, it will want to start running again. Have you had the ECU tested? Or have you checked it at all? Might be a cracked ECU board. Had the same problem with my S10 couple years ago.

I took the head off it seems fine but the last piston from the dizzy makes a squeaking noise is that ok? It come and goes (the noise) i dont see any scratches on the walls... there was alot of carbon build up in the pistons i had to vaccum it out. I had foglights that would mess up my dash lights when it was on ( The dash would flash on and off when i turn the headlights on)..do you think that had something to do with it?

This is something most honda Owners never check "Battery" we check everything but the battery. Same mistake i did. Car dies when I Cruised in neutral and i checked everything but the battery and it was the battery that died

once it happened to me. after 3 hours of troubleshooting and ripping everything apart and back together we found out that my fuel gauge got stuck and i was out of gas.


how bout putting a glalon or two of gas in it and see if it fixes the problem.

first off we should ask how is your knowledge of honda engines, or car workings in general, that way we can give you better advice instead of telling you what you might already know.



the rule of thumb: ALWAYS CHECK SIMPLE THINGS FIRST!!! and then move on to more complicated and time consuming tasks.

simple things like: loose ground/loose battery connection, gas in the tank,spark,distributor, etc.

does the car try to run? turns on for a second and dies or just cranks. any funny noises?

Have you done any work to the car recently since this problem started? Maybe could have a bad ground such as the ECU/Fuel pump ground on the thermostat housing? It's probably something simple.

gas would build up in the pistons when i tried starting it. the fuel pump worked, distributer works. I took the pistons out and they had carbon build up on them. The squeaking noise was coming from the journals of the crankshaft.

Did you find a solution? My 1994 Honda Civic is doing something similar and we're at a loss.
