ok i need some help.. i am looking at a 93 DX sedan and the guy just did a B16z6 swap on it.. the motor has been in for about a week he says and i drove the car last night.. it is idling a little rough and the clutch needs to be bled( which isnt a big deal) and it is overheating.. are these easy fixes and as far as the overheating could it just be the thermostat? the fluids are all filled. so its not a coolant issue.. i am new to the civic world and dont have a big budget right away.. can anybody point me in the direction of how to remove the thermostat.. and how to control the idling and even a simple how to on bleeding the clutch.. but the main question is for 500 bucks the body is in good shape and the motor itself is clean... is it worth the work.. it drove fine just overheated so it wasnt a long test drive..

any suggestions or ideas or information at all would be wonderful..

first find out if u got a D16z6 or a B16(??)...
rough idle? then clean the iacv with sum brake cleaner...

make sure theres no check engine light because the wiring might not be done properly or it could be hooked up with the wrong ecu. That's a good deal if the car is clean but since it has a swap it could lead to more headaches if you are a n00b. There's plenty of info out there to help you run down the problems as long as you're not scared to get your hands dirty. if you follow the lower radiator hose that's where the t-stat is. i would recommend getting a shop manual or haynes for starters.

yeah im a n00b when it comes to hondas must i have a mazda 6 that runs 13.80s and its a N/A.. but i still dont know what im doin.. im planning on learning and making a honda a hobby.. but nonetheless it is throwing a couple CEL's and he told me that its not the right ecu but that he does have the ECU for it???.. and looking down in the front there is the fan on the left in front of the motor but to the right of it there is nothing there.. almost like hes missing half the radiator but if im not mistaken then the spot allocated for this has something to do with the A/C. and there is a huge clusterfu** of wires on top of the very small radiator in front of the little fan that is there.

Then it's from a 1993 Del Sol S
I guess he didn't put back the a/c unit.
The radiator in front of the tranny is the right one your looking for.
And theres 2 thermostats, I took one off and replaced the other.

ah ok well i just want to be able to get the damn thing home so will taking the thermostats out stop the over heating.. i can work on it more at my house my whole thing is to ask if its worth it which it sounds like it is.. i live about 25 miles from where it is at.. and i want to do a k20 or something that can get me into the high to mid 12's what do you suggest

When you take out the radiator hose going into the engine, there will be a thermostat, you can take that one off and see how it runs, im currently daily driving without one with no problems.
And yeah that k20 can go in with the right motor mounts.

alright man thanks alot for the info.. is that an ok price for it.. im new to the honda world and as far as knowing what will fit what and what goes where and how everything on honda is interchangeable kinda confuses the **** out of me

its a white 93DX sedan.. and yeah its only 500 bucks so i really cant go wrong.. i guess worst case i can just part it out or sell it for 500 to someone else later on down the line..
its a 5spd and had like 120K on the chassis

If you wanna save gas that d16z will save you lots!
But if you want power without going to big on cash get a B18b1 from a Integra Ls, comes with 140hp stock twin cam, I/H/E could boost you up to 150 and you can put a b16 vtec head on it.
Depends on your price range, Honda has endless possibilities when it comes to engine setups.

and 140 or 150 is good for a civic?.. thats not a whole lot of power

Haha, people with d15's with 92hp wheelspin 1st gear and second.
Depending your price range, 150hp is pretty good for a daily driver, if you want more power you will want a b16(Civic Si 160hp) or b18c(Integra Gsr 180hp)

hmm makes sense lol.. i dont want a daily driver out of it thats for sure.. but i think i might go with the Gsr motor.. how difficult would a swap be if i havent done one before?. and is there a website that carries motors that i could look at?

A swap is really simple as long as you have the right tools and friends or family members that can help you out.
Just remember how you take things out and put them back in, you will need a obd1 engine harness and a p28ecu.
I just finished swapping a jetta tranny with my friend, im curently 16, but I work at a body shop/mecanic shop so it's like cheating, hahaha.
You can go to any motorsports shop around your city, or go to a reall good known website that is suggested by many who have bought from them so you won't get scammed.

oh alright that sounds easy enough i have a couple friends that are pretty good with cars and one that is a huge honda enthusiast.. what website does your shop use or what do you recommend?.. why a p28ecu whats that for? and if i did a motor that is newer than 1995 woudl i still need an ODB1 harness or could i use an OBD2 since the motor is OBD2.. just curious and trying to understand all this stuff

you have a lot of stuff going on here... the d16z6 is from the del sol Si not the S by the way...same as civic si, its 1.6 sohc vtec. Del sol S is like a civic dx and so on... anyway, your car is obd1 (92-95) and so for the sake of keeping things easy stay obd1. Wiring is a huge headache unless you or someone you know, can wire a honda well, don't mess with it. You can buy an entire gs-r or jdm gs-r swap on a variety of websites. I would research more before you get into it because it's always good to have as much info as you can in advance. YOU SHOULDN'T RUN A GSR WITH A STOCK P28 ECU. A p28 is what you need for the d16z6 (SOHC) and running a dual cam (dohc) motor on it is a bad idea. Get the p72 that is obd1 and is made for the gs-r motor that you buy. usually a full swap comes with everything you need. Your car needs three wires ran to the ecu for vtec, i'm guessing this didn't happen yet since you are having issues. You will need this with the motor you have or the gs-r so i would research that nowish. Good luck man. Hit me up if you need more help. If you want the setup you have now to run right, get the right ecu and make sure vtec is wired.

My bad, can't you run a obd1 p28 and chip it for the Gsr?
Then run a Obd2 Gsr usdm engine harness?
Then just plug and play?

oh i see yeah ill just stay obd1 and keep it simple cause im not about to mess with wiring. and yeah alot of the full swaps that i have seen come with all the stuff i need so it should be relatively easy. but thanks for the info man if i got any other questions ill shoot you a PM

i hav a dx sedan too. 94. i put a gsr motor in it. it went right in. very easy and fun. i beat it up and dont regret it....then i spun a bearing. put that in and turbo it. dont ditch the 4dr. they can look slick with some work and some hp youl have a nice whip
