93 Del Sol Interior Color Change
Hi All,
My Del Sol rebuild is coming along really well now, thanks to the help of a interior paint/dye product called SEM.
Quick background: The car is a 93 Del Sol Si. Purchased as a "shell" and the interior was destroyed, left out in the elements, the previous owners tried painting it all black with some crappy paint. I have since orderd a new black carpet, racing seats (with brackets). and have taken out all of the interior plastics/dash. I also fixed some rust holes in the floor as well.
The interior pieces where dirty, and painted with the paint flaking off. I used mineral spirits and a green scrub pad, to loosen it paint. then I used a pressre washer to remove it all.
From there, I used a green scrub pad again and washed the pieces throughly with dish soap. After rinsing I began the SEM process.
- Wash again with SEM soap (use green scrub), and repeat until water does not bead. Dry with lint free towel.
- Next use SEM plasric cleaner, wipe off in one direction with lint free towel.
- Next USe SEM sand-free adhision promotor, apply a medium wet coat.
- While sand-free is wet begin spraying color on using a light coat. While the sand-free pullis in to the plastic pores, it will also draw in the color!!!
- I applied 4 coats per piece with a 10 min flash time in between coats.
The payout is really in the prep work. I am by no means a "great, or even good painter". But just following the directions will produce amazing results. Here are pics of the finished product:

Re: 93 Del Sol Interior Color Change
Hi Eye,
I'll post more pics ASAP. The interior was the typical light grey color, mixed with years of dirt and grime. I am in the process of reinstalling the interior. I have to run the audio wires first, then put in my black ACC carpet.
From here I'll be installing all of the painted plastics. The doors and rear speakers were in really bad shape, I sent them to a local upholsterer to get recovered.
I'll post pics once it's done, hopefully by the end of the week.
I also will be installing a harness bar, and race seats too.

Re: 93 Del Sol Interior Color Change- Update 11/4/12
Hi Guys,
I wanted to add in some updates to the interior. Since the last post; the entire color has been changed from factory grey, to black. I added new black carpet as well.
Also added is a NRG short hub, quick release, and steering wheel.
NRG e-brake handle and a black and red shift boot.
Door panels and rear speaker surrounds have been wrapped in a black material, and I purchased black interior door handles and locks from Honda.
LED lights replaced the dome light, as well as the gauge cluster light bulbs.
Audio equipment has also been added such as; In-dash 7" flip out head unit, speakers replaced all around, and a JL stealth box with two 8" subs, and two amps (mono), and ( 4 Channel). The box was used, covered in black carpet which over time had "chalked". I sprayed it with multiple coats of the SEM products I previously mentioned and used on the other interior components. It came out looking amazing.
I've attached some updated pictures as well. Just need to add seats, brackets, harness, and gauges in the air vent. Slowly, it's getting there.

Re: 93 Del Sol Interior Color Change
Thanks guys, the door panels are just okay in my opinion. Something simple and clean, the OEM material was destroyed so this was an inexpensive fix. I wanted to do the interior as cheap as possible, to leave more budget for the engine work.
