93 cx hatch -- swap questions
im actually changing my mind and keeping my hatch...just needing some tips on doing a swap...im a former ef owner, so the new OBD1 system is a little different to me...anyways, im for sure doing a b series vtec, not sure b16 or gsr yet...but one of them...just wanting to know what harness to use, what ecu, what axles, etc...thanks

p28 ecu i use to think was the best. But i was prooved wrong. P30 to me is the best Ecu you can use. Because you can still keep your knock sensor however its a little harder to chip the Ecu. I have a place racing wiring harness so thats the harness i recomend. Also i have integra type r axles so those are the axles i reccomned. Btw i have a 1992 civic cx.

umm, there is no BEST ecu, they are not UNIVERSAL. use the one that goes to the motor used. as for the harness. if you go w/ a USDM swap use a teg harness 94+. anything else, use a 92-95 ex harness, and extend some wires, or use a 94+ teg harness (gsr if avail. so you dont have to run vtec to the strut tower, you will have to run it to the ECU no matter what). as for axles, passenger side, use any B series axle you want, most get 90+ teg axles (they are all the same for the passenger side), and for the drivers side get the one that goes to the intermediate shaft that comes on the motor you get.

If you have a 1992 civic either use a p28 or a p30. Ya ITR are more pricey and any other b series axle will fit. If you want to use your factory harness then you have to extend wires. But if you havent done it before then dont try it now.

you need a ex or si wiring harness for it to be plug and play...you can use a p28 or p30...i was using a mugen chiped p30...p28 is fine as well...you need b series axles...you can use ls axles or b16 axles...anything b series are interchangable...good luck with the swap....also...always expect to spend more than your budget...theres always going to have unexpected problems.

Re: (meanTheDope)
i know first hand about unexpected problems...i did 3 swaps w/ my crx and each time, my budget was blown out of the water...but i got it taken care of...im actually working a trade deal for my cx hatch for a si hatch...so, itll be that much easier to do a swap

no you dont, 94+ teg harness' all plug and play, using a 94+ GSR harness is 100% plug and play, the civic harness' are not, you have to cut and extend wires.

like i said in my first post, use the ecu that goes to the engine being used. THEY ARE NOT UNIVERSAL. a P28 is for a d16z6, not a B series.

i had a vx...and everything was plug and play. i just had to rewire my o2 sensor, that was easy. i was already prewired for vtec. thats all thats needed.
so my bad...slight modification...but nothing extreme.

ive had a p28 on my b16 in my 1992 cx hatch for over 2 years. If you want to have an OBD2 1992 civic cx then use the 2000 si Ecu. But if you want to go OBD1 Then you have to use a p28 or a p30.

you dont know enough to be giving out advice. like i have said the P28 ecu is set up for a d16z6, and isnt close to the same maps as a p30.
run a chipped ecu w/ p30 rom dump, or if you can find one cheap buy a p30. DONT run it w/ a p28, unless you like 7000rpm fuel cut and 5800rpm vtec crossover, and less timing than should be, as well as less fuel.

bro you dont know what your talking about. 7000rpm fuel cut is on a stock ecu. Who runs an unchiped Ecu with an engine swap? Like i said before i would choose the p30 only because you can keep the knock sensor.

if you're performance minded do not trade your car for an si.
also there's some misinformation in this thread, theres a giant faq on the main page about swaps into cx's, the swap is in no way easier in an SI
I just swapped a obd2 b18c into my vx, peace-o-cake.

only proves my point further, if your gonna chip an ecu why pay the higher price of a p28 or p30 at all, grab a p05 or p06 add vtec, and burn a chip, for half the cost.

honestly man save the money, take a couple days and do it yourself. it is honestly very very simple, the hard part is amassing the proper tools.
if you've done anything with your car before you can most likely do a swap, the only difficult part is maneuvering the engine into the bay afterwards.

Re: (instrument)
doing the swap is no problem...wiring isnt a problem either...i did it all before on my crx so...i dont see the hatch being much different...although im thinking about going H22 so ill need to cut holes in the firewall for the shifter cables, other that, its basically get the mounts, get the electronics and throw it in...of course i know there will be other small things that pop up but im ready for them
