93 civic wont start- head gasket swap- help
93 civic coupe with a 94 b18b1
did a head gasket swap since mine blew.
resurfaced and new bolts in.
everything went back together perfectly.
BUT now the car wont start.
i reset the crank to cyl 1 TDC and cams to TDC
im maybe a tooth of but thats the absolute best i could do alone.
my issue is, the car just wont start, it cranks and it gets spark and fuel and air.
but i cant for the life of me get it to run.
ive read something about distributors, but i dont know anything about them.
so if anyone has ran into this problem before please help!
i need this car to run asap lol.

Re: 93 civic wont start- head gasket swap- help
my freind who helped me do my HG swap
reset everything for me before he had to go to work.
but i ran into an issue with the timing belt and had to rest the cams
and i think thats where everything ****ed but.
so is there a chance when he set my dizz to TDC for cly1 is off now?

first thing I would do is make sure that the cyl #1 was at tdc and properly time the cams (should line up across each other and not be a tooth off and make sure that all are timed together. You can take the #1 cylinder spark plug out and stick a long skinny screwdriver to see when the piston goes all the way up to tdc and then check the pulley mark against the timing cover line and then check your timing gear marks to see if the cams are properly timed. Also IMO the dizz cannot be off that much to the point where it will not let it start so no the dizz would not be the issue Do you have all your grounds connected (all three-T-stat- the one next to the ps pump (valve cover to radiator support) and the one on top of the tranny?

since no timing cover, did you use the line etched on the crank's timing gear lined up with the mark on the oil pump at tdc and the cams lined up timed? also when you do have cyl 1 at tdc and the timing is all correct you can check the firing sequence by taking the dizz cap off and the rotor should be pointing to where the #1 spark plug wire should go on the cap and then you go clockwise with the firing order I believe its 1-4-3-2 but not too sure this is off the top of my head but you can search and find the firing order here on h-t

i set the cly1 to TDC by taking my spark plug out and cranking it count clock wise till i saw my dipstick( thats in the cyl 1 spark plug hole ) go up all the way.
and the cams are all set to time, xcept intake is off 1 tooth. which ill reset tomrrow along with the dizzy and hope it works. preciate the info man

Re: 93 civic wont start- head gasket swap- help
ive tried everything still wont fire.
cly1 is TDC. cams are TDC, i fixed the one that was a tooth off.
timing is dead on, and ive set the dizzy to cly1 over and over
and it never fires.

So when all is timed and at TDC and you looked at the rotor you started there (where it pointed to) with cylinder one plug wire on the cap and then proceeded with the rest of the plug wires from there clockwise as per firing order 1-3-4-2 and it still would not start?

Since you dont have the correct crank pulley, you cant truly rely on a dipstick for TDC, pull the crank pulley and lower timing cover and use the marks on the oil pump and crank sprocket to get your lower end lined up perfectly, line up cams, install timing belt and adjust tension. Then reinstall lower cover and crank pulley.
