Icon2 93 civic d16z... NITROUS???

My ? for you is how much nitrous is safe in a 100% stock d16z motor? I have re-built the head within the last year or so, using new head bolts(honda) of course... I am hearing mixed opionions... I'm hearing any n2o will streatch stock head bolts and warp the head, and im also hearing that i can throw a 75 shot at this thing without a problem... I have a venom vcn-2000 kit. This kit is all computerized. I can control the time of spray, how large of a shot, and when it sprays i.e. throttle position, and rpm. The system is a dry shot, which has a harness going to each injector to pulse them longer to richen up the mixture... it taps into the tp sensor, distributor, and the o2 sensor. The system is made to shut down automaticly if it senses a lean condition Im running sunoco 93 octane in it. I have sprayed it with approx. a 50 shot probably like 20 times already... only from 4.5k to about 7k then shift and do it all over again haha

I would throw 75 at and see what happens. anything can happen when nitrous or boost is put into play so its hard for someone to tell u what will happen. I have shot 150 plus on stock engine with no problem. I have also seen 50 shots go terribly wrong for other people. sounds like u have a good kit so just see where it takes you.

The only prob. Is that this is my daily driver... If something does go "terribly wrong" im effed right in the rear haha I need my car, and i want it to be fast... I plan to build another d16z with forged pistons and nicer connecting rods ect. but finances are holding me back for now... I'm hoping someone has some experience with spraying stock d16's...??

Thats what Im telling you. Just because my experience turned out good doesnt mean yours will. We could have the same engine, same nitrous kit, same everything and still mine could blo where yours run forever. There no one that can tell you what your engine can hold and still be safe. You dont have a wideband Im sure so read your spark plugs and see how they look. If this is your daily driver you might want to hold back on how much you try to squeeze out of it until your pocket book is fatter.

agreed. no i don't have a wideband as of now, but the computer for the venom kit taps into the o2 sensor. I have a display from the kit that tells me my rpm, my mixture, tps reading, and pulse width on my injectors, so im kinda just watchin my mix when i spray.. Have you heard of any issues with head bolt stretching?

also, you said you have seen fifty shots go terribly wrong? Do you remember what happened to these motors? and why? I'm thinking im pretty safe with the fifty shot tho, considering the duration of time that im spraying, and the fact that i havent blown it yet after spraying atleast twenty times...?

If your reading off the stock o2 your reading off a narrow band not wideband. I would guess you would be ok running the 75 shot in the rpm range your are running. It seems like your running safe. just put the 75 shot in and see what happens. if the ar dont like it go back to the 50.

Thats what i thought, but some 19 year kid that thinks he's a real ricer has me freakin out haha... I'll try the 75 and see what happens, I'm just praying not to reach the point of catastrophic engine failure lols... Thanks for your help, and any suggestions on engine upgrades to make this safer would be much appreciated

forged pistons, rods, and a good tune would help allot. I prefer boost over nitrous but each to there own.

is there a such thing as billet rods for these motors? i like boost, but its constant beating on it... i had a turbo kit, but i copped out during install... sold it to a friend thats gonna run it in his 95 ex... I like the choice of boost or n/a, thats why i went with the nitrous

any specific brand of pistons / rods that perform best to your knowledge? How much power can the stock bottom end handle?

Im sure u can get billet rods for the single cam. boost is not constant beating. your only in boost when u want to be just like nitrous. nitrous runs out then u gotta go pay 40-50 buks for a refill. nitrous had allot of things to go wrong such as solenoids breaking down, temp of bottle, trash in the lines, blah blah and blah.

Ok so i'm running a 60 shot through my d16z, and i know im supposed to knock down the timing a few degrees... any one know exactly where i should set it? and also, I'm still on the stock plugs. I know i should be running 6's or 7's... Anyone know a good NGK part number for the plugs i will need???
