you say its a fun and addicting car, you get on it from time to time when you do drive it? that can hinder mileage as well. hell even being hard on my Si i still get 30 mpg. even still 30 is good but how far do you drive to work? do you at least let it warm up if its cold?

Welcome to H-T justa92vx. I too just purchased a 94 dx hatchback. I'm currently restoring it to use as a daily also. I'm also new to the Civic side of the Honda Family (Coming from an S2000). I love this car just as much as my S2000!
The first thing I would recommend in addition to what Ron is suggesting s getting your hands on a 92-95 Civic Shop manual.
Ron, when you say "cap" what are you referring to?

I've also spent many hrs on the EG (chassis code for the 92-95 models) FAQ in this forum
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/faqs-frequently-asked-tech-questions-1998336/
those should help narrow down what you need or want to do with the car.

Thats pretty low gas mileage for a VX. THe CX and VX are the economy motors. Thats one motor i wouldnt even waste my time on modifying sadly. They average around 42MPG. My CX gets 47MPG.
Do what others have already said in the post. Due a tune up! Something as simple as too wide spark plug gap can cause for bogging, sputtering, and/or loss of power at high RPM's. When you do the plugs look and smell them after you take them out. You can tell if its truly running lean

The OEM VX catalytic converter is part of the exhaust manifold and uses a different B pipe than the other EH2/3 chassis, so If the header has been changed, the exhaust system has been modified as well.
