Default '92 Si exhaust buzz / rattle / resonation

My '92 Civic Si hatch makes a buzzing noise from somewhere along the exhaust path as rev from around 2500-3000 RPM. Would any of you happen to have had a similar problem and know how to fix it?

How do I check for leaks?

On a side note, are there any serious detrimental effects to me removing every single heatshield I can find?

Jack your car up and check your exhaust piping for any holes, cracks, etc...

EDIT: Heatshields help keep heat in. Exhaust gases flow faster when hotter. I don't recommend removing the exhaust manifold heat shield, you'll just be letting excess hot air float around in your engine bay.
