i notice my dad's bimmer could downshift to first while slowing down to a stop. is it like a honda thing where we can't downshift to first while rolling? i'm curious.

I've never had problems downshifting into first, so long as you rev match properly and don't slam it into gear.
I also believe this to be a throwout bearing problem.

the problem seems to have gone away, but it still makes noises prior to clutch engagement. i bought a new clutch kit. it should be here the middle of this week. ill keep ya posted
