92 hatch/99 D16Y8 swap - D15b7 tranny is now making grinding noise

ok well i have a 92 civic hb and i swapped it with a 99 d16y8 and kept my d15b7 tranny... my tranny was working perfectly fine on the b7 but when i put it on the y8 now i hear some really bad noises coming from the tranny like crrrrrrrrrrrr like somethings grinding. today i changed my throughout bearing or watever its called and i changed the clutch just for watever.... but the noise is louder now???? no grinds no nothing just the noise... it has tranny fluid and everything brand new axels... what can it be????

Lol I love how you put that. The 96-00 SOHU tyrann's have a bearing problem. At about 80000 the main shaft bears start to fail. Most shops will tell you they throw out bears is done and after you replace it the noise is still there. It is an easy fix I got the parts at autozone for $300 and rebuild the tyranny in a few hours.

he said he kept his dx trans. sounds like an input shaft bearing. get a new trans.

i agree on the bearing failure.

however, it is cheap to rebuild, and not that difficult. or, find a used tranny with a warranty at a parts yard for a hundred or 2...

We need more information. For example:

Does the car move in gear?

Does the sound go away when the clutch pedal is pushed down?

Does the sound go away when the transmission is in neutral?

The car drives great in all gears and it sounds normal when clutch is pressed in

As others have said, that sounds like a bad main/input shaft bearing inside the transmission.
