Default 92 Hatch? Or 98 Hatch?

Hey guys, new to this whole forum thing, but i was wondering if i can just ask the Honda-Tech Community this Q.

Basically its going to be my first car, and i am in need of choosing between a 1992 Honda Hatch or 98 Hatch. Both are great cars, and basically i want to stance mine, and give it that original JDM all around look. Most people i know like the 92 and im leaning towards that more than the other, but i want your guys's opinion on the differences.

My dad told me to get you know like a 2006+ but im really feelin the old schools because thats what i grew up with.

the 92 is overall well rounded i feel. but you just cant beat the looks of the 96-00 models and i feel like there are more parts out there for the 96-00, making it easier for that jdm look if you want, or just something custom.

depending on where you live (in the cold north or hot south) more eg's will have problems out the gate such as rust, worn bushings, high mileage engine and interior,

unless your willing to fix some of these problems, go with the car you think looks the best

personally, i love eg hatches, the front ends look more sleek than Eks

but i have have a eg coupe with worn rear bushings and seized suspension bolts all around, quarter rust the size of basketballs, and my cup holders suck and i wish i had an armrest

Why a 92 or 98 unless you have two already found. There is the 92-95 body style, 96-98 body style, and 99-00 syle that had subtle changes.

Personally I like 99-00 > 96-98 > 92-95. The body styling on the 92-95 is nice, but I despise the interior.

Didn't we have a thread like this already? Maybe even a few already.

If your looking to make it more of a drag car down the line I would say EG all day. EK fronts look better but the rear of the EG hatch's are so much better. If the JDM look is what you want then go for EK. I feel like EK's are better cars for look wise. I say go with the EG hatch.

I'm all for the EG here. The hatch design on the EK really isn't for me personally. I've seen more leak issues with EK's over EG's. Selling my EG was the worst thing I've ever done. Three motors swaps, and turbo set up.... got the idea to try my hands on a CB7, LITERALLY the dumbest thing I've done. I ended up with two CB7's I didn't want. Was offered two EK4's, but they didn't give the spark the EG did. I sold everything for our RL1 and a ED3. Just waiting for an opportunity to buy an EG again.

Maybe you should have replaced the tail light gaskets?

How many miles are on them? Personally, I dig the 96-00 hatches, but if you can get a 92 for the same price with 150k fewer miles, then it's obvious.

@ek forever guy
one of the ek's offered was leaking from the hatch itself, not near the tail lights. whole seal was replaced, still leaked. assuming it took a rear ender and tweaked the frame, but i've heard quite a few mention unfixable leaks unless they wanted to spend more on the dio/fix than what the cars worth.
