Icon2 92 eg hatch tail light problem

ok so i was headed home yesterday at like 9:30 and this cops behind me at a light. Speed limit was only 35 but i just started shiftin and wasnt speeding and the dude turned his lights on .... My first reaction was wtf i wasnt speeding so i pulled over. Cop tells me that my taillights are out and asked if i had dash light i told him no and he was like and i quote " well if your das lights dont work then your tail lights wont work". ...... i told the cop no your wrong and to make the story short he let me go but was a major dick.

so im trying to figure out why my tail lights dont work. I checked the fuse and it wasnt blown but i didnt have enough time to check the bulbs so its probably that i just wanted to hear suggestions of what else it might be.

i have reverse lights, turn signials, and hazards.

i dont have brake lights or tail lights. but had them when bought the car.

so what are some other possiable things that could be the problem ? thanks

VERIFY that all fuses are working.Don't just look at them. Check the bulbs as well.

BTW. The cop was dead on.

Start checking stuff.
Do you have headlights?

And you drive around at night with no dash lights?

fuse 18 or 19 (can't remember) is the dash/tail light fuse. yes, they are the same fuse.

actually pull the fuse out and look at the fuse and the connection in the fuse block, as it may be burned up if the fuse did not blow or melted - have seen it happen.

also check your dimmer switch - lights run through it.
