Default 92 civic werd *** proplem.

I did a Engine Swap on my 92 Civic Dc Sedan and at idle the car jumped from 500rpm to 1700rpm constantly untill i put it into drive than it stopped. on my first test drive it barely wanted to take off and was dyeing. i brought it back to the shop and messed around with it but couldn't figure it out. finnally i disconnected the TPS sensor and it idled perfect at 700!!! i test drove it without the TPS Connected it drove PERFECT! as soon as i connect it it messes up why is this? i put a new tps sensor and it did the same thang someone help me asap thanks!

Thats what people tell me but thats not right because they don't have the same connector so they can't go anywhere except where they belong.

will this cause me to have BAD gas milege.. 11mpg????

I wouldn't think so because i never took off the map connectors. but could it be that i don't have the vaccume hoses connected? because i have no clue where they go lol. either that or maybe someone crossed the tps wires on the engine harness for it to work with a dpfi to mpfi setup. because the tps sensor had electrical tape on the wires. someone let me know i need it fixed asap.

Running my car without the tps will it make it bad on gas or mess anything up?

I guess if your talking about dpfi then you are talking about a ef right? but the computer use's the tps signal to help determine engine load so that it can change the ignition timing accordingly. without this you could end up with detonation which could tear up the motor pretty quick but it does sound like you have the map sensor and tps sensor plugs mixed up. I would try that first.

The did, but not in the US where the OP is from, I believe some parts of europe got some weird stuff like that though.

To the OP, the MAP and TPS sensors definately do have the same connectors and are pretty easy to get backwards.

Hell no its not dpfi its mpfi. but i was going to orignally put this motor in a 89 civic dx hatchback. and my friend had the engine harness wired up for the hatch. and i heard when doing a dpfi to mpfi swap you have to swap a few fires on the tps sensor so the timing isn't fully retarded at idle.

and i do not have the tps and map sensor wrong because the map sensor connector is clipped onto the map housing where it belongs. and their no way it will reach to my tps sensor.

I need this fixed asap if thats true cuz its a new rebuilt motor and if running without a tps sensor will ruin the motor plz help asap !!!

take a pic of your map sensor so I can see. cause I dont think you are looking at the right thing or you have a firewall mounted sensor but either way i have yet to see any civic that the tps and map sensor couldnt be mixed up.

In that case, what exactly did you do to the harness? If its been hacked up you're probably better off just buying a '92 - '95 DX/LX harness.

HOLLY BEJESUS!!! I must have been in a hurry and did not red that post.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by TravisCadello &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Hell no its not dpfi its mpfi. but i was going to orignally put this motor in a 89 civic dx hatchback. and my friend had the engine harness wired up for the hatch. and i heard when doing a dpfi to mpfi swap you have to swap a few fires on the tps sensor so the timing isn't fully retarded at idle. </TD></TR></TABLE>

At this point you have expressed your knowledge and it is time to put the wrench down!! I don't know who told you this but unless you are hanging around a bunch of real techs then I would question and research anything that anybody tells me. Listen, you cant switch wires around on the tps, it doesn't work like that. if you knew how it worked you would understand. there are several places on the net that can describe it to you including a wiring diagram that will explain how it works. I think if you want this car to run right then go drop it off at your local shop or replace the whole harness and don't do anything else until you go to school or start hanging around some techs and learn a few things. I am really not trying to be mean but if we went on to try help it would just be above your head, its like beating a dead horse. sorry man I hope you get your car running right.

Most definitly you have wires cross.but u didnt mention what type ecu your running? But i would defo change that wiring harness if theres doubts about the wiring or its cut an modded for ef swap. If u look hard enough u can find some legit uncut harneses for a good price have a look on marketplace.

b4 you destroy your motor!

my map sensor is mounted on the firewall. and the plug looks exactly like the tps sensor. BUT, it wont reach to the tps sensor no way in hell. so its not that forsure. what i think is going on is that i have NO vaccume hoses connected their all just laying around in engine bay. i have no clue where they go. maybe if i connected all of those correcktly and pluged the tps sensor in. it will probbly run great. but does anybody know the correct way or a picture of how they go. i think i have 3 hoses. maybe 4. only one is connected.

AND WILL RUNNING WITHOUT A TPS MESS ANYTHING UP?

Is your car running a cel? My best advice for you is to take a look at another civic and compare.
