Default 92 civic vx running rich?

First off I apologize if I am posting in the wrong forum, I don't know what an EK or EG is.

I just bought a 92 civic VX for $2K with the stock D15Z1 engine, salvaged title and needs a little work.

The spark plugs are black part way up the threads and the exhaust smoke that comes out smells more like fuel then oil.

I had a friend take a look at it and he said that it could be a couple different things:

a) The head gasket seal is leaking
b) Piston rings are shot
c) head needs to be machined
e) head is cracked
f) MAP censor is acting funny

I have not done a compression test yet as I don't know how to do it, I assume it is fairly easy but don't have the gauge.

I would like to trouble shoot the problem and would like to know which order I should take if any starting with the least expensive and logical route.

Also, any tips on HP/Torque gain are appreciated. I was going to do a B16A swap on my 89 DX but found this car for cheap.

Other then the issue at hand I need new break pads, rotors, and some of the steering column parts as the car was previously stolen and they broke the windshield wiper switch and the ignition mount?

OK, I was kind of smoking crack with the last post. I talked to my friend again and he said it is more then likely a censor that is acting up.

Can anybody tell me how to pull codes on a 92 civic VX?

Yeah I would think it was just your O2 sensor being bad. I have that same car, and I beat on that old engine every day for 5 years! I didn't change the oil in if for over a year and she still passed emissions!! Before i did my swap, after over 18 months on the same oil, I put the car in nutral, put a brick on the throttle, and went and made myself a PB&J sandwitch, ate it. Went back out into my garage(the door was open) the car was still hitting the revlimiter, the temp was up slightly but she was still running so i took her around the block seamed to run fine, turned her off, went to sleep, woke up the next day. When I started her up in the morning she wasn't happy, lots of smoke, but she still ran pretty good, besides the smoke.

swap that engine, it is next to impossible to find parts for it. It only make 92 hp stock, you will save alot of money by not wasting it on that engine, get a b16 or a b18 trust me you will be alot happier and you will be ALOT faster!!

I am going to do a swap but right now I need to sell my 89 DX and pay off the $2K for the car( couple months).

So here is a question I have for you:
How much did it cost you to do your swap?

The guy I bought the car from has a 94 hatch that he has invested $13K+ in to and it is a pimped out ride.
He said that I only need to add like 2 wires for the B18C swap.
Could I keep my current tranny and get the B18C block, head and ECU? or do I need to get a tranny too?

yeah it all depends on how much you get the swap for, after that the mounts and two wires is is about righ, I would also go with a p72 on that b18c, that's what i have. All together, I spend around 5100 for it. that includes CAI, Dc-sport 4-1 header, Apex-n1 ehaust.

You can't keep your stock tranny it just won't work, although I with I had my old VX 5th gear for the freeway.
