Default 92 Civic VTI Cluster Problems

Hey guys, just picked up a 92 Civic with a JDM D15 swap. The previous owner put in a VTI gauge cluster and the gas/temp gauges don't work. Can anyone help me with this? Sorry, I'm a Subie guy. Just got this for a DD, and it's my first Honda!

Are the gauges themselves possibly bad?

Have you removed the cluster to check whether the connectors are fully seated and the wires are intact?

Other test:

The 1-wire temp gauge sending unit is located below the distributor. Unplug it. The connector has a Yel/Grn wire. Ground the wire on the engine. Then turn the key to ON(II). Does the temp needle rise?

I'll try this tonight when I work on it. Someone told me I had to repin it because the VTI was wired different then the USDM clusters.

Post close up pics of the plug face and the rear wires.

Yellow is for SRS which your gauge cluster doesn't have.
White is for a VX or CX upshift light which your gauge cluster also doesn't have. Do you have a VX or CX model of Civic?

Neither of these problems are related to your non-functional fuel and temp gauges, however.

And, whoever told you to start repinning your gauge cluster you need to stop listening to because he doesn't know what he's talking about, so be glad you came to ask in these forums first. Begin following Ron's advice.

I'm thinking just the whole gauge itself went bad since the tach and speedo work. i'm gonna replace the whole cluster because it's in km/h anyway.

I have a UKDM VTI cluster and my temp gauge works fine in my CX civic.

I'm almost positive it won't, but if you don't have the SRS plug connected to the cluster will your airbag still function? Any tricks around this to get SRS working with a VTI or similiar cluster without a SRS plug?

I believe that's correct - it won't work.

To get your SRS to work, swap the cluster bezel face (the three-holed cover) from the old CX cluster over, along with the SRS module - it's removable.

Thanks that was real easy and worked like a charm! I also swapped my speedometer/odometer to maintain the mileage while I was at it.
