92 civic starting problems
i have a 92 civic dx with a d15b vtec. the problem: when i turn the key over to start the car i cant hear the fuel pump prime or turn on. i try to start the car and it just turns over and over etc., i can have my brother spray starter fluid into the CAI and after about 2 try's it'll fire up and continue to run. i can drive where ever with no problems. but when i turn it off and it sits for about 20 min or so i have the same problem all over again. could it be the fuel pump relay under the dash?

it's a possibility it could be the relay...if you can, check the voltage getting to the pump connector and make sure it's close to 12v..if it is below 11.5v or so there is too much resistance to the pump, which could directly be related to corroded contact tips in the relay. Also, how many miles are on the fuel filter? If it hasn't been changed in quite a while, and/or if you have run a good bit of poor quality gas in it, than the pressure might not be adequate to facilitate starting. How is the power output of the engine once you finally get it running?

just checked the voltage at the fuel pump and the meter showed no voltage at all. the fuel filter has less than 5000 miles on it and the engine runs very strong .

i have this same problem. My mechanic told me its the dizzy going to die soon, I replaced all other things like fuel pump relay checked the fuel pressure, all good. Im still waiting on the dizzy though. Also try to push start it, because it starts fine when pushstarted. very weird.

well it was the fuel pump relay (i hope). i took the main relay out of my donor civic in the back yard, put it in and it fired right up. just to show how retarded i am, i was switching out the wrong relay for about a week now. LOL thanks guys for your help.
