Icon6 92 civic shifting trouble

Hello all, I am quite the novice when it comes to cars. Hopefully you guys can help me diagnose my problem.

I drive a 1992 honda civic vx 5 speed. It's got alot of miles on it 33X,XXX and it rarely ever has problems but earlier on the week I had some severe problems shifting.

It seems the cluth doesn't have any problems engaging or disengaging but ill have a hard time getting into 1st, 2nd and reverse. I've had problems getting into reverse for quite some time. I would put it in reverse or where reverse should be but it wouldn't actually go. It'd be as if I was in neutral. This is now happening with second gear sometimes. Id have to shift back into neutral then second again.

The problem I'm having with first is its just physically hard to get it to 1st and takes alot more power than normal. The gears shift easily and normal when the cars off. I checked my fluids and they were low so I filled that and still have the problem. Any ideas where to go from here to find my problem? Thanks in advance!

hey? sounds like gear synchros but before you go and buy a second hand gearbox? check your clutch slave cylinder its located on front of the gearbox just loosen 8mm nut and pump the clutch pedal to make sure its not air locked since you say it was very low before you toped it up. and if not then check clutch master cylinder

how does the clutch pedal feel...does it stay stuck to the floor, maybe in the morning when you first get in it is the pedal on the floor?

do you notice any "mushyness" in the clutch pedal?

No. Nothing like that the pedal feels normal. I'm gonna try and bleed the clutch fluid like the other guy suggested thanks for the responses so far

if the pedal feel like it always has then there is no need to bleed the clutch...your hydraulic system for your clutch wouldn't "suddenly" draw in air unless the reservoir went dry and sucked air that way, and that being said...something must have been leaking in order for you to lose that amount of fluid to it to go empty and suck in air. So please consider that...

i must ask..does your shifter feel very sloppy?

To be honest I haven't checked the resivour in a good while so it could've been a slow leak. As for the shifter feeling sloppy idk about that. It feels pretty much the same as usual except for when I'm trying to change gears sometimes. Like when shifting it'll feel like it's in a gear but when I release the clutch it'll grind and ill have to go back to neutral then try the shift again.
