"92 Civic not running
Ok, heres the story. '92 Civic hatch, d16z6, 5spd trans.
One day, my brother is driving this car, and it all of the sudden just dies at idle, and won't start back up again. We figure its a ignition issue so we replace everything, and still nothing. After a week of toying w/ it, we take it to the shop around the corner.
Got a call today saying that there is bad compression on cylinder #4, only 50 psi, but the rest are fine. Also, that timing may have jumped (damn ***-hats didn't even pull the timing cover to find out), and they are recommending the engine be replaced.
Could it be a top end problem? Maybe a bent valve from the timing slipping? Or a blown headgasket causing a drop in compression? I need help asap guys so i can get this thing back on the road, and save it from the crusher since thats what my dad is gonna do if it isn't fixed in a week.
Thanx

Re: "92 Civic not running
ok, so i re-set the timing, and tried turning it over, but got nothing.
once that was done, i did my own compression test, and got a solid 150 across the board on ALL of the cylinders.
anybody else have any ideas as to why it won't start? EGR Valve? ECU?

My friend had the same problem where it died at idle. Changing the distributor and checking the grounds and sanding down those points solved his issue, if this doesn't work for you I'd suggest taking a look at the ecu and seeing if it went bad.

You've got compression. Have you checked all the ignition leads for spark? You can take a spare plug, ground it, and plug leads into it one by one to make sure they all spark. If that check out, you're left with a fuel issue.
