Default 92 Civic: No start problem

92 Civic w/ 95 GSR...swapped over 5 years ago, so that's not the issue. Timing belt on the engine replaced about 2 months ago, but that's the only real engine-related repairs I've made since I did my swap.

Anyway, yesterday it wouldn't start as I was leaving work. I turn the ignition key, I hear my fuel pump pressurize, lights, radio, etc, but nothing else..no clicks, no starter, no cranking ,nothing. A couple times while trying this the speedo shot up to 80, then went right back down(!?), but still nothing but dash lights and fuel pump. I did notice the engine seemed to turnover 'slowly' when I left for work, but it fired up so fast I thought it was my imagination. Seems like it was more than that....

Any clues where to look? I checked the batter (12.5v), checked for lose wires, whacked the starter with a hammer...everything that a guy can think of when he's 25 miles from home in the parking lot of his employer.

take care,
Mike

bypass the starter relay and see if it starts. don't know where it's at, good luck, or take something metal and touch both posts of the starter, don't be scared either. It wouln't hurt u.

I had the same similar problem with my civic, all lights and radio would turn on but when key was turned nothing, found out it was my BATTERY, too much build up, the the current was going through. a SMall bottle of Coke did the job.

Happened to me 2 weeks ago. Similar prob with the speedo but only once.

Replaced:
- Dizzy Ignitor, nothing
- Replaced with 2 other starters, nothing
- Placed wire from the starter bracket to the neg. batter terminal, BINGO. The chassis to tranny ground went out.

Also try push starting it and see if it turns on to eliminate other probs

Dasa, it makes no sound at all.

Thanks guys. I'm off to work today, so I'll start checking out all the wires leading from the battery. I'll wait until after work so I don't look like a complete idiot with my tools out in the parking lot!

take care,
Mike

Thanks guys. Bad ground to the tranny, as some of you guessed. With your help I had it running in 15 minutes!

take care,
Mike
