92 civic lx vtec wont' start
I've got a 92 civic lx. I bought it with a vtec-e engine already in it. It ran beautifully for weeks, and suddenly now, it won't start. it will fire three or four times and then stall. i'm getting 5v at the MAP sensor, getting spark, and my fuel pump is turning on. However, when i removed my spark plugs, 1,2, and 3 were soaked with gasoline, and 4 was carbon black. Any idea as to what the problem might be? is the engine running super rich and choking itself? i just passed emissions a week ago!
any suggestions or help will be much appreciated. Thanks!!!

Is the CEL ON?
Check for spark at each of the plugs. Check the plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, and possibly the coil and igniter unit. Sounds like an ignition problem.

I am getting spark, but i don['t know if it's firing at the right time, also, my plugs are covered in gasoline. is there anything that would cause this? i don'tknow if it's dying because the timing is off or because it's too rich...
thanks again

still no leads. I am getting spark, i am getting fuel, and the fuel is fresh. I'm obviously getting air, but still no combustion. I'm beginning to wonder if my timing isn't just off by a little bit. How much timing belt play is allowable on the vtec-e? my belt will move about a quarter of an inch, enough to pull a belt tooth over it's gear tooth, but how can i actually TELL if the timing is off? it runs for about a second before dying. Any help would be so appreciated, it's my work vehicle and it's been down for nearly a week!
Anything at all would be appreciated deeply!

Check whether the camshaft gear and crankshaft pulley are perfectly synchronized at TDC. If not, the timing belt may have slipped a few teeth.
