92 Civic LX - no compression in cylinder 3
The engine in my son’s car has some problems. It has No compression in the number 3 cylinder. Doesn’t appear to have the usual classic systems for a bad head gasket, doesn’t overheat, no white smoke from the exhaust, nor oil that looks like chocolate milk, no bubbles in the radiator etc. I suspect the valves are not the problem either since I get a low but steady 14 on a vacuum gauge. Could be the rings are shot or maybe a damaged piston but won’t know for sure until I can remove the head. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get to it for another couple of weeks but it’s the only source of transportation my son has, so he intends to drive it on 3 cylinders till then or until it craps out completely.
Since the car has well over two hundred thousand on it and if indeed it needs the rings or a piston replaced most likely we won’t repair it. Either we will replace the engine or look for another car. This leads me to the question; under these circumstances would there be any merit or consequence to driving the car with the fuel injector disconnected on the bad cylinder?
