'92 civic LX, 1.6L 5-speed manual- Brake issue
Was driving the other day, I hear a very loud thump coming from the right rear of the car. Kept driving, slowly, suddenly becomes more frequent but less intense, like a 'jug-jug-jug' sound. Sounded like a flat tire even, I pull over and inspect the tire, all around the wheel and under the car, I don't notice a thing wrong.
I drive to my destination 1/4 mile away, and now when it jolts, the brake pedal seems to go with it.
I call AAA bc I dont' know whats going on. AAA takes one look and says its the brake caliper that is bad/failed. Said I could drive home with no adverse effects so I did, It made periodic loud noises on the way home, ending up with a continuous "jug-jug-jug" with concurrent tugging on the brake pedal.
Assuming he is right, (he seemed pretty emphatic), what other parts are affected (rotor? pads?). How much would you expect the parts to cost and what would you pay a good mechanic to fix this, how long should it take etc..
I don't think I'm up to fix this one myself, so I'd like to get some general opinions so I know what to say at the shop if and when I take it in.
Any advice/comments highly appreciated!
thanks

If it is a bad caliper, you'll need pads for both sides and possibly a rotor on the one side. Rotors are so cheap you might as well replace both.
I'd double check your wheel bearing back there though because the noise you describe could possibly be that.

thanks, my dad had suggested initially the wheel bearing, ill have them look at it.
any ball park on cost of pads for both sides, rotor, and rebuilt caliper? along with estimated shop time in hours?

Pads are anywhere from $15.00 to $80 depending on what you get.
Rotors are around $20 each.
IDK about caliper, it's been a long time since I've done one; same goes for the rear wheel bearing.
Shop time is around one hour for all the brakes and the caliper.
