92 civic looking for diagnostic - won't crank and starter makes "weeening" sound
Ok so first off I am new to the site as a member but have been using it as a resource for a while now. This problem is the first I could find by searching so I made an account. When i searched most post that persons car started and made a sound or made a completly different sound. Granted my technical vocab is limited as I am not a professional mechanic or anything just a hobby wrench turner so I may have not searched with the right terms.
Car: 92 civic- d16z6-5spd-230,xxx
I payed 800 for it and it has been an alright dd but it seems one thing after another is going out on it. It used to overheat so I replaced coolant, cool temp switch, coolant relay thermostat and radiator cap. Ran fine. Then one day it decides it doesnt want to start, after a little searching I soldered a bad conection in main relay and replaced the dizzy cap and rotor and nothing come to find out it was the ignition. I didnt have any money for a new one so i spliced a switch between the blk/ylw and white wires coming out the left side and it worked fine for a few months but the other day I took it out parked, came back not 5 mins later and tried starting to only hear a "weeening" sound almost like a power drill thats getting bogged down.
So my question is did my ignition finally bite it or did my switch make a new problem. The switch still turns on my electronics and i can hear the fuel pump clicking when turned to II but when I start it i hear that sound and the motor doesnt turn or anything.
Maybe my starter? I thought that would make more of a Wreekinkinkink kinda sound.
Sorry for the long post and the newbie vocab and thanks in advance for the help.
Also if i posted this in the wrong place my bad. Mods move me at will.

Re: 92 civic looking for diagnostic help
Also before it stoped turning on my idle was really eradic every second or so it would go from 1000 to 2500 or so then back down and kept fluctuating. when I push the throttle it was fine sub a little hesitation but ran fine but as soon as i hit neutral or let off of the gas it would start fluxing again

Can you push start the car?
Sounds like you may have a low battery. Have it tested and charged.
If the battery is fine, have the starter tested.

also with the idle, if not the iacv make sure theres no air in the coolant system.

went to check for cels- i put a connector in the 2 wire connection under dash and nothing so plugged it back in and just turned the key and the cel didnt even come on for the start up second my dash lights like to go dim on me so this is a possible bulb or wire prob but if not what else could make a cel not come on?

If the bulb for the CEL is blown. Does the CEL actually come on for about 2 seconds when you start the car?
Did you have the battery checked?
