92 civic hatch DX automatic. overheating? please help

ok checked the coolant and oil levels. both good. the fan is working and i installed a new thermostat and gasket. the temp gauge goes up and down. any ideas??

Sounds like you got air in the system. Bleed the system and top off fluid.
